  1. Thanks for the information, haven’t really considered they might be lakers
  2. Thank you for the information I appreciate it! So we have tried it on at least 3 trips last year and have yet to have a hit from the depths while pretty consistently marking ice box fish. I understand a million things can factor into if they want it or not but would you say the chances are generally pretty low for getting a fish to bite out of the ice box or are they not half bad?
  3. so i know its early yet to be thinking about fishing cool deep water under warmer water, but i want to hear everyones thoughts on it. Last season we would occasionally mark fish around 150-175'(near bottom where we were) and the temp line was way above them and all our fish were in the top 75'. Now ive had people tell me they'll always keep at least one pole down there in the "ice box" and ive also had people tell me not to waste our time. So whats everyones thoughts? Do certain presentations work better for the deeper fish? certain speeds? im all ears to any suggestions
  4. Had reports of 3” to 18” off of Dunkirk ny last week, on the smooth ice out of 18 mile creek we saw 20-24” thick ice before a large area of ice shoves that I would assume are closer to that 4-5’ mark.
  5. Gotcha thanks for the ideas. And I should have been more clear, what I was recommending was for musky and not other trolling species. Generally people don’t troll with as much gear out for musky so it’d probably be easier to stop the boat was my assumption. I certainly am not stopping my boat for walleye, salmon, or laker revival as mostly they end up in the cooler but would stop for a musky. Other thing while trolling musky, take your boat out of gear/slow wayyyy downs when hooked up, and use stout gear to hoarse the fish in. The musky won’t get as tired and more likely to survive as well, hopefully negating this whole conversation. Shorter the fight less lactic acid builds up in them. Also helps to only target during cooler months for best survival chances, hot water wears them out fast
  6. Are you trying to do this while still trolling? If trolling I would pull spread and still opt for the hand pulling/pushing method on reviving the fish WHILE boat is stationary. Do this until you feel confident fish can swim. If boat is moving your putting further stress on the fish when doing the push pull method. You can move plenty of water across gills doing this alone. It does take a significant amount of time sometimes. Also I’m curious on your boga grip method, are you bringing that line back in and then opening it and seeing the fish swim off while boat is stationary? Still trolling and leaving fish behind regardless(bad releases happen not trying to bash). How far behind boat? I’d certainly try it for my next laker trip if it works and I know a little more. I’d be concerned with this method for muskies due to their likeliness to thrash, thus resulting in damaged jaws, and for the same reasons musky shouldn’t be held vertically as their anatomy doesn’t allow for much vertical support(continuous pulling from mouth seems a little stressful imho).
  7. What size divers have you been running? And what depths are you targeting?(I agree with other guys that said braid or wire is preferred but I do know some people prefer mono for shallow applications)
  8. Various lure lots, prices and description in pics. Shipping might be a little more if needed or can meet(located in south Dayton ny area). Just trying to cleanup some stuff as I have too much
  9. I am signed up for the brawl, not signing up for slam as I’m gonna mainly stick to ny water@Gill-T
  10. Fish USA still has chicken pox in the shallow bomber, not sure if you were dead set on the deep
  11. What depths are you targeting for walleye and pike? @Mikey g
  12. for the most part leadcore, but Dipsey divers, jet divers, 50+2 snap weight method, and downriggers can all be utilized to catch walleye, even experimented with some copper line last weekend. If you have any questions feel free to pm me
  13. Just a heads up the “big fish Friday” portion of this event starts lines in the water at 6am. Luckily boats can depart from any port so it won’t be as crowded as Saturday will be. I’d probably still plan to fish dunkirk or Barcelona to avoid most of the crowd (edit didn’t see mr580’s comment)
  14. https://www.fishusa.com/Garmin-Panoptix-PS30/?sku=188831&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_va1Wnaoa5dsuOUxcUtl9vnR-cT&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx9-yvr6phwMV39rCBB1IzA5yEAQYBCABEgLUGvD_BwE i believe this is the panoptics you were looking for?
  15. I will say the suffix 832 leadcore has been treating me well for the past season, it’s definitely different than regular leadcore though so there is a bit of a learning curve
  16. thank you so much @Yankee Troller
  17. Any screenshots or pictures of how the bait shows up on a screen? I’m assuming it kinda just looks like a ball of color but would be appreciated to have a point of reference
  18. Does anyone employ side scan while trolling this lake to help locate fish/bait? I’ve heard of people doing it before but not really sure which range setting I should have the screen set too(if I should say have the bottom within view on the screen or just within 200’ or so)? Any tips or tricks for this would be very helpful. Running garmin transducers with 260khz and 455khz channels for side view
  19. I think letting us know what your goal depth wise or what you want to achieve would best help us help you. Generally boards should be clipped onto monofilament line(some people do run braid though). Mainline can be copper, weighted steel, lead core, and a leader on top of that. Give us some more specifics I’m sure people can chime in. Also I’m assuming you’re referring to inline boards
  20. Need help with choosing the best 2d transducer for my application! I mainly troll Lake Erie in depths from 20’-120’, occasionally Ontario too but mainly fish with buddies up there. looking for clear picture while trolling and good searching ability while up on plane. These will be hooked into 2 garmin uhd 93sv’s at my dashboard(networked together). So I’m looking at the following options: - Garmin GT15M-IH(600w, 85-165kHz chirp, in hull) - Airmar B117(600w, 50/200kHz traditional, thru hull) - Garmin GT12M-THF(350w, 85-165kHz chirp, thru hull) - Airmar B150M(300w, 95-155kHz chirp, thru hull) Right now I’m thinking my best setup would be the Airmar b117 ran to one unit(widest cone for finding fish), and a gt15m-ih to the other(with y cable and gt30 on that same unit). I’m willing to sacrifice the side and down imaging if one of the other chirp transducers would be a better option than the gt15. Would also consider an Airmar b75m but that would use up a lot of the budget.
  21. Most Yamahas I’ve dealt with haven’t liked muffs very much, definitely stronger stream with a barrel or tub
  22. Cisco, if you price it out it may actually beat the prices of some of the other brands. I know my setup would have been about $350 more if I went traxstech.
  23. For sale or trade is my snowmobile. 2010 ski doo mxz tnt 600 ~7700 miles -has reverse, no electric start -track was replaced around ~5500 miles -carbides and belt replaced within a couple hundred miles -carb model(with oil injection), not etec Only selling to update/upgrade my boat a little. Have had it about 4 or 5 years now and it’s treated me well for the most part(one bad ground and one bad key in that time frame). Overall very clean for the miles. Would consider most fishing/trolling related trades as well(partial or full). (Tekotas, saltists, fish hawk, etc)
  24. Fiberglass hull, so I’m under the impression that the in hull only effects how deep of water it’s capable of being used in, not necessarily the clarity or the ability to mark fish. I mainly fish Erie in depths less than 130’ so I’m not worried about losing depth capabilities really
  25. I have he suggested the through hull option but didn’t have much to say about in hull
