    Down from southern vt to fish for browns out of Mexico point. 3 day trip we managed to fish all 3 days got a little rough in the 16 fter but we held in there. Limits all 3 days couldn’t be happier. It’s our annual trip, the fish got bigger each of the 3 days. Most on long lines 35-45 back then snap weight 1 oz mainly 130,120 back then inline boards both sides,then 2 down the prop wash with a 9/16 weight about 7 ft from lure. 5 mono lines and one lead core. Lead core down the port side prop wash 70 ft back. Didn’t count colors on the Leadcore. All spoon bite for us. Chicken wing,Sodus point buckeye,black crushed alwife,Nbk,black widow, mixed veggie were all good for the 3 days. More natural patterns today seemed to fire. About 35 fish in 3 days. A lot of Browns. 2 smallies. 1 Atlantic and 1 steelhead. A lot of small lamprey 6-10 inch range. Some Fish had 2 on them. It was nice to kill the lampreys and send the fish back. We must have killed 12-15 lamprey. Thanks to the info from everyone on this site is why I think we had such success. It’s a long ways and not exactly cheap. You all know how it is. So we are stoked. Here’s the bigger ones of the trip. Thanks for everyone who shares their knowledge.

    Just curious if you know what size dipsy you were using.? We been utilizing 2 since yesterday (down to 1 now) not sure how deep we are getting them to go. I feel they go deeper on braid than the chart shows. 50 ft was hitting in 22ish ft on a 1.5 setting on a size 1. Kept it at 35 and took several fish on it. Just not sure how far down it really is. Also a 7-8 ft 15 lb flouro leader,stinger spoon mixed veggie

    At the dam If you dare it’s a 30 lb braid to a 3 way swivel. 80 pound spro. to 3 ft of 20’lb mono live herring. 2 oz weight (usually) Sit in the current break at the concrete support to get you out of the current best you can. Usually it takes a quarter throttle to stay in position due to the current on certain days if the water is jumping 10 ft off the dam or trickling. It’s extremely dangerous and not 100 percent legal. Probably why it’s so fun. Slap the herring off the concrete dam count to 10 and set the hook. It’s that legit

    We usually run a live herring on a slide weight rig. Baitrunner on a spinning rod is ideal. Anchor up over a current break or a pinch point of any kind and or any available spots that are left. People get extremely mouthy down there when you get to close. 2 ounce depending on the tide usually is a staple 6/0 and up I prefer 8/0. Check the regs on offset circle hooks. 30 lb braid to a 20 pound mono leader average 3-4 ft. Casting a live 11-14” herring is tough there’s an art to it. Most places you can just drop it down over the side of the boat.

    They are a blast. Got a warning last year for being to close to the damn. But wow is it a feeding trough up there. Best day last year caught 27. 5 over 25 pounds 2 biggest were pushing 40 lbs. then the fun was over haha

    Thanks for the info. We fish all over trying different lakes. We live closest to bomoseen and st Catherine but we have been in a lot of waterbodies all over the state including the nek. Seymour,crystal,willoughby. We chase all different species. The salmon bite last month on Champlain was unreal. We caught close to 25-30 of them in 4 trips which we thought was awesome. Fish a lot in the rivers for trout. Battenkill mainly but metawee and tributaries are all good trout fishing. Stripers are showing up in the Hudson in Troy and that’s always a blast. Thanks again

    Hello all. Not a pro by any means just thought signing up for it would open doors. Coming out from southern vt from Thursday to Saturday then trying to race back to fish for stripers in the Hudson in Troy on Sunday. Have had pretty good luck considering we internet learned most of what we know tactic wise on our trips. Didn’t know if there was anyone with info on east or west troll from the launch considering said winds (this week) or a general rule of thumb after alleged 9 fters.? Thinking Mexico point (4th trip ever always been Mexico) but not opposed to truck travel vs boat travel due to said 16 fter. Still looking at hotels motels to stay at. Subject to change the town we stay in and go out of. there’s just 2 of us. Thank you all for any and all info. This website is a game changer for average people like us just trying to catch some browns and whatever else will bite in skinny water. This website is awesome only because of the people that interact inside of it. LOU thank you

    We found a pocket of stained water right in front of the Fort And caught 8 browns in about 2 hours. All between 2-4 lbs. talked to a guy when we headed out who was catching walleye off the river walk. We went to the Mexico launch it was open and useable just the waves were to rugged for us in the small boat. farthest ramp to the right when you pull in. Don’t know how this last storm affected it. We got 30” in southern Vermont. Hope this helps

    Depending on the size of your boat we launched out from under the 104 bridge in Oswego river last weekend. In a 16.5 ft boat. Little tricky getting in and out watch out for the syringes and dead dogs

    Also considering trying to sneak an early march trip in out of Mexico. Does anyone know if the parking lot gets plowed out? And if that pay and park machine that you get the parking permits out of operate all year long? It’s just shy of a 4 hour drive. Thanks

    Definitely. We went out again from 645-945. Still nothing tons of big marks 160’. Fow. 145-125 down. Can’t get our baits down to that depth. No riggers just magnum dipsys. Watched another guy battle a fish for a while think they lost it. We will be back at 430 am for another roUnd. Good luck again

    We did the same thing out of Mexico point. Today. 10 hours or so. Couldn’t seem to get any combination to get bit. Saw a couple guys catch one here and there. ? Also first time trying for kings in Ontario in a 16’ boat those waves were rugged this morning. Hopefully tomorrow we can get into one tomorrow. Good luck everyone

    Hello all. Only posted once on here only a second timer diy tripper to Ontario. From Vermont came down same weekend last year with gf we had a blast and had to come back. Launched out of Mexico headed towards the plant at 7 am. We ran an all spoon pattern of stingers, ladder back green and neon were best but caught a fish on all of them. 44-46 seemed to be where they hit. 125-140 back all day long. 2 planers and 2 long lines. Turbid water trying to maintain 2 mph best we could,took fish. We went 16-19 losing a couple at the net. Biggest were between 4-6 lbs. a lot of “cookie cutters”. About half the fish came on “weight rods”. Small craft advisory already out for tomorrow so no on the 16.5 ft amatuer ontarioans. This place is awesome wish we had a fishery like this back home. Incredible. Thanks to all the people who post information on this site. Been eagle eyeing it daily since I became a member last year. Good luck fishing

    Yes indeed after taking to several people around the launch coming in and going out, felt very grateful and thankful to have caught some browns. Especially first time DIY trip. Very addicting waters out there. All came on variants of green colored stingers. Planer off each side and 2 lines straight off the back. 100-115 feet. Basically what i picked up off watching bill saiffs videos on YouTube. Haha true story. Here’s a picture of my girlfriend with biggest one of trip. 11 lbs. two were both 7 lbs. and the 4 th one we through back was about 16”

    Hello new to this website first timer. A guy at the Mexico boat launched who seemed like a local turned me onto it. (Thanks) We drove from southern Vermont and fished Fri,Sat, and half the day today before returning 3.5 hrs home. 0 fish Friday in the rain. 4 browns Sat. And 0 fish again today. This was our first trip to Ontario and was fishing out of a 16.6 star weld. Little rough but we enjoyed the new adventure. Going to try another trip back in next few weekends
