  1. Luke—-shhhh…let’s not give away the big secret😎😎😎😎 PoJ
  2. FF34--yep we have a large rubber landing net and practice all the same TTPs for stripers except we use rubberize fishing gloves to hold the fish along side the boat...please post orPM info/photo of your plastic clamping fish grips tied to a rope solution. Respectfully PoJ
  3. FF34…thanks for great insights. Here is a follow up question…landing/boating the fish: what is the best technique for our safety and health of the fish? We will likely catch and release 90% of our fish.
  4. Great way to pay it forward and introducing a new generation of fisherman. Keep on keeping on!!!
  5. Finders Keepers— I don’t do Facebook for personal reasons, but tried their website multiple times and a goofy error. Do you know if they actually run a non-Facebook website for those who prefer not to use Facebook?
  6. First is there a rule of thumb on setting planer board distance? I will like have two Yellowbird inline boards per side plus two downriggers on the stern. Second, how do I determine how much line to let out past the planerboards and downriggers? I will be running spoons, Rapalas, Cordell red fins, and Thunder stick jr. Some deep divers others not so much. Thank you all for your wisdom and insights. PoJ
  7. Thanks Les… we are getting all hyped up about the trip. Scott
  8. Yep…we get that for sure. Same for stripers and especially the hybrids.
  9. Sk8man—many thanks for the comprehensive response. We have and use our hook sharpeners constantly. Yes we follow your TTPs for setting and managing drag. Respectfully PoJ
  10. Thank you!!! Respectfully PoJ
  11. LOU Obi Wans—we have been reading veraciously all the TTPs you have posted; however, no one has mentioned drag setting. As experienced striper, hybrid, and walleye trollers we set our drag on clicker mode to sing one verse on the initial strike/hookup then we lock down the drag and set the hook. If we are fishing late, fall through late spring we let the fish run and then bring them in. If it it’s summertime (warm water and air) we try to quickly land the fish to avoid over stressing the fish (we mostly catch and release). In three weeks we will make our first foray to LO (Henderson Bay) and would like your wisdom on drag settings and fish fighting TTPs. We will be using various combo of sticks and spoons on downriggers and yellow bird planer boards. Respectfully PoJ
  12. Thank you so much…we are experienced walleye and striper fisherman and so trolling is our strength. The flying fish are going to be something different albeit our favorite northern Ontario walleye lake has a great SMB population and we get some awesome tail walkers, but typical these fish are 5lbs and under. We are going with downriggers and planer boards…copy all on planer boards adding a level of finesse to landing larger fish. Stripers tend to smash the stickbaits with a head butt which tends set multiple hooks. So we do not usually lose them to hook pulling out. When we lose a fish it is the result of line or knot failure. In Canada we go almost exclusively with worm harnesses spinner rigs for walleyes and to avoid losing hookup to short strikes we don’t set hook on the first hit…we allow the fish fully take the bait before setting the hook. For our LO trip, we are hoping to target those shore lines like you are doing. Our setups are not really configured for going deep for lakers. I will provide daily reports May 14-21. Respectfully PoJ
  13. Wasn’t dissing you…we are (my youngest son, 3 brothers and my nephew) heading to Henderson Bay in a couple weeks for a week of walleye, browns, etc. It is our first try at LO. So we are seeking the wisdom and experience of fisherman like you. Thank you for your insights. Question—should we “set the hook” at initial hook up? Thank you PoJ
  14. What is the biggest reason for losing hook ups?
  15. Did the bite change as the waves got bigger?
  16. Nice work…how was the wind /waves?
  17. Yank my line—thanks Station 45135 - Prince Edward Pt Owned and maintained by Environment and Climate Change Canada 43.780 N 76.870 W (43°46'48" N 76°52'12" W) PoJ
  18. Thanks all— will be heading up to Henderson Bay May 14-21. I was hoping for a buoy up near there but it appears they decommissioned the buoy near the Grenedier Island some years ago and never replaced it. Maybe the Canadians have one. Respectfully Pair of Jacks
  19. What are the websites to get weather buoy data on LO? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Pair of Jacks
  20. Thanks to all for the great suggestions. We do love the the singing of our reels when a big fish hooks up, but in our configuration of a 16 ft aluminum boat and twin downriggers right at my tiller station it’s like a orchestra constantly tuning up. We decided to convert from SS to Scotty super braids. In the process of despooling as I write this post. Tight line to all!! Fish on… Pair of Jacks
  21. Billbobthorpe—I hear ya!!! Respectfully Scott
  22. Sammygee—I am a craft beer guy and several of my favorites come in corked bottles so instead of draining one of wife’s high end Mosel Region Reisling😎😎 PoJ
