I use Convectors for my copper lines on GL Classic 7'6" rods (small boat). Everything else is Okuma Coldwater low profile reels on 7 and 7'6" GL Classics as well. The convectors give me the line capacity needed for coppers and the enlarged reel guide allows splices to pass through easily.

short Coppers and swivels
SusanJames replied to SusanJames's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I currently terminate my flat lines with a beadchain swivel and 7' flouro leader to the snap. Seems like the same would be good with copper? -
I have rigged up a few short coppers with 50lb braid backer, 30' mono board section, 45 copper (75', 100' 150') and 30' of 20lb Big Game mono leaders. Board line to copper and copper to leader connections are with spro swivels using haywire twist and shrink tube. My question is; should I use a swivel somewhere in the leader? Snap swivel (as opposed to just snap) to bait connection or is the swivel at the copper to leader connection sufficient to prevent line twist and allow baits to run properly? Thanks for any input!

Fall fishing
SusanJames replied to kcr66's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Plenty of Browns to be had near shore in the fall. Creek mouths, rocky points. I find them anywhere from 5 to 30' FOW. Bigger fish do seem to be concentrated near the creek mouths. Love those fall colors too. A bonus.... lots of 4-5llb smallies on the rocky points too. Worse case scenario; you spent a beautiful fall day on the water with little to no boat traffic. -

Small and largemouth bass fishing
SusanJames replied to tom r's topic in Welcome to Lake Ontario United - Fishing Forum
Hi Tom, I'm a trout and salmon guy so can't offer much on bass. I do catch a lot of nice smallies (4-5lb) when trolling for browns. Usually on the rocky points in late summer and early fall. I fish mostly off of Wayne County but I'm sure the smallies would be found in similar areas around Niagara. -
I have upgraded my planer board reels with coldwaters so all the reels on the boat are consistent. I have two of these reels for sale. They were used one season for maybe 5 trips and I have never had a problem with either of them. I upgraded both reels with power handles and the original handles are in the box. I prefer to sell them as a pair. Features Lightweight corrosion resistant frame and sideplates Corrosion resistant graphite spools Stainless steel reinforcing sideplate rings Mechanical line counter function measures in feet Multi-disc Carbonite drag system 2 stainless steel ball bearings Durable machine cut brass gearing Self lubricating gear system Stainless steel levelwind line guide system

Salmon Flies/ Peanut flies
SusanJames replied to SusanJames's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Just a follow up: I can tie in 30 or 40lb. Just wondering where the breaking point is. My main line will be 65lb braid to 30lb mono leader for diver to slide on then to flasher/fly leader. I would rather have a lighter leader to the fly so if I sang/break off I only lose the fly and not the dodger/flasher. Thus the question about 20lb leader to the fly. Thanks again, Bob -
I am planning to add the mylar skirt style and peanut flies to my offerings for spring. I have tied up several (sliding style). My question; Is 20lb flouro too light (not stiff enough) for the leader between the dodger/flasher and fly? Most of the youtube tutorials seem to indicate 30lb or bigger to produce the best action on the fly. I'll be fishing near shore for browns, steelhead and hopefully cohos and expect to pull these behind slide divers and inline planer boards. Thanks, Bob

Slide Diver question
SusanJames replied to SusanJames's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Thanks again guys. Whaler, I'm running 65lb Power Pro with a double uni to the 40lb Big game then bead and bead chain swivel to 7' Seagur Blu leader with crosslock snap. I pull mostly spoons and occasionally shallow diving crankbaits/minnows. -
Slide Diver question
SusanJames replied to SusanJames's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Thanks for all the help guys....second question; will the divers slide freely on 40lb Big Game? testing them in my shop they seem to stick where the mono runs through the tubing. They slide fine if I eliminate the tubing and lock the front release directly on the 40lb Big Game but I'm worried about compromising the mono doing that? Thanks again, Bob -
I've been running inline boards for a few years now in skinny water from my 15' tiller boat. Next spring I will be adding lite bit slide divers to my offerings. Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb for lbs of pressure needed to trip the lite bite arm? I want the divers to trip instead of dragging around small fish but don't want them to "false trip." Anu help would be appreciated.

Using flashers, dodgers or rudders
SusanJames replied to SusanJames's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Thanks Gambler...just looking for ways to get my spread more attention as I'm limited to the three rods. -
I'm fairly new to trolling and am having some success on the skinny water browns. I'm limited to near shore and calm weather as my boat is a 15' aluminum. Works great for me though. My question is does anyone run flasher, dodger, etc in front of their spoons or stick baits in the skinny water? Obviously they would be the smaller size. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or if it would even have any value. I usually fish alone so I am limited to three lures in the pattern and just wondering if a little added flash night be of any benefit.

I do have plenty of room upfront as it's usually only me in the boat. I see your out of Hughes. Thats where I've been launching. I'm sure we"ll cross paths someday.

That's the way I'm leaning. Thanks for the input!
