    I have used that launch twice before with much less ruckus, but it was during the week. I live about 4 hours away and just went there because it was familiar to me and close to our hotel.

    Had the worst launch experience of my life there this past Sunday night. I am actually surprised no one was stabbed or shot. Coming back in around 830, there were dozens of jetski's all over acting like fools. I finally manage to get tied off and go get the truck. Everyone else is going through the 1 lane where the pay kiosk is, and a consequently stuck in a line like 10 deep. The sign in the parking lot says retrieve turn right toward the road, so me and another guy do that. The "jetski folk" didnt like that, so a lady literally stands right behind my trailer so I cant back up, and she just waives on all her people who went the wrong way. Her man is threatening my buddy at this point, and before he could get out boat pulled up, we just start getting cut off. Guy in the lane behind me is fairing no better. Next thing he is out of his truck and everyone is yelling and screaming vulgar and racial comments. He gets his boat out, I get cut off by like 10 people in a friggin uhaul truck towing their boat trailer. They have to put the trailer on the ramp at an angle because my boat is right there and consequently cant get their boat lined up right. Broken bottles all over the parking lot, weed in the air and the cops finally show up because someone had stuff stolen. F the cops chants and cell phones all pop out instantly and it remains a disaster. An actual hour later, I finally get the boat on the trailer and we pull all the way up by Bill Grey's to unload the gear and tie it down for the ride back to the hotel. I was surprised there were no shots fired, but back at the hotel find out that was up the street at the park right by 104. This guy is not using any rochester ramps again. The next day we went to sandy creek. No one there and we had our limit of kings by 10am.

    Just got back home. Wrights is open until october 15th. We fished anywhere from 50 to 550 fow today. Screen was totally blank from 150-350. Marked a good amount of larger fish from 350-500 but they were down deep like 250-300 and didnt seem to come shallower to feed. Same thing happened to us last time we were up there in July. Also didnt mark any notable bait balls.. Oh well, back at it next year after we hit the hudson river for stripers.

    Head up to Oswego this weekend to bring the boat home and get out one last time. Does anyone know if Wrights landing is still open (bathrooms, ramps, fish cleaning station)??? Thanks! - Matt

    super noob question here: I notice most people on here talk depth in foot of water when reporting where they are fishing, but people who post oak orchard reports talk about lines which i would have to assume(hopefully correctly) is latitude minutes. Just wondering why...

    When trailering we just use a good ratchet strap to pull the kicker up to the transom with it in the down position. very little bouncing around. If we are making a long haul, we will drain the oil and take it off to help be kind to my old ass boat. (yamaha 9.9 4 stroke)

    I am lead to believe that the wave heights are from the center point to the crest, so as said, you should double it to take the trough into account to get the full size of the wave. Wind direction is also very important. I have seen forecasts of no waves with a south wind around 10, but it will whip up some waves especially if you go out a few miles. if the wind abruptly switches direction and goes against the direction it had been for a while it will have some chop until the lake readjusts. While you may be safe in a smaller boat, you toss around enough that it is just not fun. I fish out of a 21 ft sylvan and once you get more than 2-3 ft waves its just not fun to be out there for hours. I come from 4 hours away so we dont usually make the trip unless the forecast is good within 24 hours.

    Reading this thread and checking the weather. looks like it is going to blow pretty reasonably into next week, not good for a small aluminum boat.....Keep up on that forecast if anyone is on the water today, Atmospheric soundings are favoring 1-2 inch hail and tornado chance..

    When I first started fishing Ontario a few years ago we used to run flashers and spin doctors like 30ft off the ball and got such tangles it looked like bret michaels hair from the 80s. Starting running around 10-15ft max and we are tangle free and still productive. As said, let it down very slow!!

    Grab a food saver vacuum sealer. Best investment I have made. I overall find salmonoids pretty mild, potentially with rainbows the mildest. You can smoke them, as they take pretty good to light smoke like apple wood. Someone already mentioned a nice rub of light brown sugar and pink sea salt with a dash of garlic powder and black pepper does wonders. I dont know if i would soak in milk, and would prefer a light salt brine if you go that route. People say the same about duck and goose, but we salt brine it changing the water 2x per day for a few days, then pat dry and right in the vacuum sealer.

    right on! I have been on forums (mostly automotive ones) for decades and it is common practice to "bump" a thread back up with a "TTT" post.

    Same for me, fishing a 21 ft sylvan. Only difference is we run a copper out the middle not a leadcore. I will usually put a flasher/fly on one rigger and meat off the other and wait to see which one is getting the action then swap over the other one. The fighting belt is a great idea to have handy!

    I agree. I used to use the fish icons because I had my garmin set like that from hudson river striper fishing in the spring. Spent a few good wasted trips to Ontario thinking I was marking tons of fish but it was just bait. Icons off now, it gives a much better idea of what's under the boat!

    We fished out of I bay Mon and Tues last week, and it was very slow. Marked a few fish down deep 200+ but only boated 2 on spoons off a 300 copper. Much slower than it was a few weeks ago...
