  1. Very eye opening shattered, didn’t realize the volume of warm water. When you say inside, what is the baseline of that phrase as I have heard that in posts videos? king, that is a great resource and exactly what I was looking for. thanks!
  2. I am about to set lines and need guidance about tail leader length. I have seen some big differences in recommendations and want to be sure I have a decent presentation and kick, so far my research has come to these assertions: For flies behind 8 inch 20-27 inch Meat rig behind 8 inch 26-48 inch I have also seen rules like set at 3 x flasher length, so in this case 24 inch (8x3). Does that rule hold true for BOTH meat and flies? I have seen notes that even an inch or 2 can make a huge difference, so don’t want to be way off. Any recommendations for setting length for both meat and flies would be really appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Bottom feeder, thanks for direction. I will start at 100 FOW, what depth should I set my ball down to get in the game, 40/50 down? Shattered, thanks for heads up about bouy. It appears to not be working unless I am interpreting correctly. it says , 3.3 ft DEPTH =72.16 62.3 ft DEPTH =71.67
  4. The Oswego tourism weekly report for 8/8 said salmon fishing went from ridiculously good to ok. They said kings were being taken consistently in 500-700 feet of water and anglers found in some success 120-300 foot of water and good brown bite in 70/100 ( and they should be going closer to shore ) . Does that sound about right? They also said Salmon were elusive in Mexico . Is that true? How far out from Mexico to get into some kings Mid August? Does anyone have a pulse check of where things are in regard to the bite on the east end between Oswego and Mexico? About to launch and would like to get some real insight on whether these statements posted by tourism should be taken with a grain of salt/disregarded completely/ or if they are accurate. If report is true and kings are being taken in 500/700 foot of water how far down are they running a ball? Thanks!
  5. does anyone have any resources /websites that track thermocline on the lake? Or is anyone able to give me a general sense on current status as I do not have a gauge to determine temp. Going out off of Oswego/Mexico and would like to have a sense before dropping the ball down. Thank!
  6. Thanks for the tips. I ordered a sectional from fishing hotspots and it was pretty good quality and detail.
  7. Great tips! Thanks for the heads up to avoid stacking as that was my original plan. I will now pivot to running 2 down riggers and then 2 dipsy rods to start. angling, you mention using a Jplug, would mid August be too early to use one (as I have some)?
  8. Thanks angling for insight and tips , I especially appreciate the heads up about the spoons as I was under the impression that you could run them with a spin doctor. Glad you mentioned as that saves me from going down wrong path. I would be curious to see how they run with a small flutter. Out of curiosity I called dream weaver and the guy said that it is uncommon to run spoons, but he has successfully, said he ran 4 foot leader behind flasher. will use fly and meat rigs with them.
  9. I have done a bunch of reviews of old posts and have come up with varying options, so i wanted to see if I was on the right track for staging kings in August. I know some of these opinions recommendations can be spitting hairs. But wanted to get your option on my specific setup. I just bought seagur blue 30#, I was at the store and there is such minimal thickness difference between the 20 and 30, so I went with 30 as some added insurance for getting a king, plus the low visablity of the line would have marginal impact as it is my understanding that kings are not line shy. I intend to run atomic flies and spoons 3/4 inch up to mag behind 8 inch spin doctors. Should I stop overthinking it and just stay with 30. Or is there such an advantage of say 2O# as it pertains to the action the leader would have in lure or fly? Thanks!
  10. Trying to dial in my spread for Oswego area for mid August. Will have 2 down riggers available on boat. Is there a diminishing return of running too many flashers at the same time? I recall reading somewhere that having too many out can cause confusion and not help. would running 4 lines (stacked) with 8 inch spin doctors (with spoon or fly) at the same time be a good set up? any tips of running multiple flashers!or 4 rod set? should they be close together as a group or run them at different spacing from the ball (one set close and one far). Any pointers will help, thanks!
  11. Thanks 13 for the insight. That’s good to know about that top lure as I have a bunch of them. What are your thoughts about flatlining some smaller ones like these that have a less aggressive bill (so they are not a deep diver). would these be better behind a dipsy or running deep on a downrigger?? does anyone have any insight on the action of a stick bait (like these smaller ones) behind a 8 spin doctor? Would that be a good combo.
  12. How other do you change lures in your spread when you are marking fish but not getting a bite specifically for Kings in August ? Every hour or every half, trying to get sense on recommendations on frequency. Thanks!
  13. Any recommendations of a map that can be purchased that shows depth/structure/markers etc (good detail) that would be good for planning a fishing trip in the Oswego area. I would like a map that I can order (to mark up) . Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
  14. What’s the best way/gold standard to ensure the lures don’t have scent that would turn off fish (ex.gasoline/sunscreen). I have seen lemon dial recommended, is that good?? Any other products or techniques to remove scent? Thanks
  15. Would running plugs of these size targeting Kings (plus mixed bag species) be a good bet in mid August around Oswego? Or are they too big? Want to see if it would be good to run in addition to spoons and flies. Thanks
  16. I have a couple of questions on fleas, as I have been reading a bunch about them and how big of a nuisance they can be. Are they more prevalent at certain times of the year (Example spring vs summer)? Or are they prevalent in certain areas? In general are they bad around Oswego harbor mid august? Trying to see if is necessary to retrofit my gear (adding heavy line) to deter them or whether I will be fine (trolling and dipsy) using lighter tackle. Thanks!
