Copper/Lead Core Question

After all of the CU/LC is out, how much backing do you let out before you attach the board? Had someone ask and I just realized that I really don't pay much attention to it. Does it matter?

It is really a personal preference...I usually wait til the swivel hits the water and a few feet thereafter put the board on but i don't think it is something really critical.
