I'm setting up some Lead Core rods for walleye. I'm using Seagate 50 size reels but I'm looking for some Rod recommendations. It seems like these copper Lead Core rods are very Stout and too stiff for walleye. Even for a big 10 lb walleye it just seems like Overkill

I’ve been happy with Daiwa Great Lakes Series 862MHF-LC’s for 7 color and up LC setups for walleye.  You need the stiff backbone to handle the weight of the longer lengths of leadcore with the fast tip to detect the bite on the boards.  Okuma has some similar rods that work fine too.  When you have too soft a backbone then it’s harder to detect walleye bites.

Cabela depthmaster rods (8'6" planer board) are all I use and they do a great job.  No reason to spend more.

If you're pulling in line planers, you'll see the bite off the the board, buy also when the soft rod tips break cadence from the swells.
