DOWNRIGGER PLANER BOARD

HAS ANYONE PULLED PLANER  BOARDS USING DOWN RIGGER WITH OUT THE BALL? I'M THINKING OF TRYING IT BUT WOULD LIKE SOME IN PUT . THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

Did it for years on my old boat and it works great. Used to spray the rigger line with WD40 before sending out the boards to help the releases slide better. Mine were the older Canon Mag 10s.

I would be concerned about the angle of the cable going out and how the pulley at the end of the boom works with it going out instead of down.

Works great on my 19.6 ft.StarCraft

I've used Big Jon's with the booms in the up position to pull planer boards and it worked really well on my boat. The electric retrieve is great. Use quick slide mounts to change positions of the riggers as needed.
