Got out this morning to explore some offshore water and hopefully get on some chewing kings. Got setup in 430 fow and immediately nailed a 7-8 lb king. After that I really wanted to make a run and started heading for 500+, but along the way my graph started acting funky along the military exercise zone. So I spent a good 2.5 hours screwing with my graph trying to dial my settings back in after an accidental hard reset (such a stupid morning).

Feeling frustrated and defeated I chugged back into 115 after dealing with my graph. Immediately picked off a laker and a nice steelhead. Feeling encouraged I began to work the laker pods but took the opportunity to jig any high mark. The high marks were snappy and they resulted in an additional Atlantic, small king, and a dropped species that I will assume was another steelhead. I picked up another laker to end the day and packed it up!

Once again, jigging to silver fish really is the deal. They bite quick and readily, finding them is actually most of the battle. The stupid Lake Ontario Lakers are actually proving to be the hardest of the species to actually get to commit considering the numbers of them out there and how many lookers you get! Ended the day 6/7.

All fish came on the spoon that must not be named until a later date 😉

Hey I’m new to the Jigging thing so I was thinking you should make a 101 jigging video. Sounds like you have it dialed in pretty good. I have no idea, jigging spoons, Buck tails , jig suspended or on the bottom. Any info would help and be appreciated. Do you fish the Sandy in the western part of NY?

Curious to see how good this jigging thing is this year . Last year there were kings all over . Doesn't look like that's the Case this year.

Well  i certainly hope so .

That would mean there are a good amount of Kings around . Which currently isn't the case , for whatever reason.

I feel I'm a pretty fair fisherman and have things figured out with these trout and salmon pretty well  . But one thing I haven't figured out is how to catch them when they aren't around.

I vote for Sutton jigging spoons.

I run them with a one pound weight on the bottom and three spoons off triangular swivels with each spoon about 2 feet away from the swivel. It needs to be lowered very slowly in order to prevent F-ups, but once down, they outfish gambler rigs for lakers.

I wish somebody would start making those sutton spoons again. They are getting harder and harder to find.

Yes it may be a different kind of jigging , but jigging none the less.

Ya, If I'm gonna start jigging with 1 lb. weights, I'm gonna have to spend more time in the gym first.

Not really. There is a fairly long rubber band, sort of like a very weak snubber between the weight and the jigs. the weight drags over the bottom and the jigging just stretches and contracts the rubber band

Are you talking about the old Seth Green Rigs guys used to use years ago before downriggers?  I have close to a hundred of the original silver plated Suttons some of them have never been used all different sizes.  I was going to put them in a display case like the one they used to have in the Sutton store front window back in the 60's.

It is based on the old Seth Green meat rigs, but with a twist. Today we have the fish finders ,but also the mussels. So we can use the fish finder to locate fish , but we cannot just drag the weight throught all the mussels and often poison carrying sediment. It's best to leave that undisturbed.

Granted that it mostly works on bottom location, the idea here is more fine tuned without dragging but being dragged by a current or wind.

For any jigging halfway down to the bottom , this idea is useless and a good way to get to see your friendly local physical therapist .

Really , are we a worried about dragging your sinker across the bottom . For crying out loud .

And might suggest a healthy dose of bourbon for that headache . You know , for medicinal purposes.
