He was with his mate last night. May get another crack tonight. Early rut.

Big’un!  My buddy gets them between 2-3am. Seems to be the magic hour. He has also found coyotes have become educated to electric game calls and now only uses mouth calls.

Usually 2 to 4 am for me. Obviously other times too but that’s the sweet spot.

Mange sucks. Poor Yote was probably happy to get put down. Lot of folks don’t realize that population control is vital to their existence. Great job.

We had one at Gators property in Albion that was 90% bald.  Poor thing.

Did a few sets last night. Called in three foxes and shot two. The third fox escaped because I didn't realize it was coming in until I started a coyote vocals sequence and then it high tailed it out of there! Highlight of the night was the second fox down as it was my furthest predator kill at 260 yards. Apologies for the gory pictures but unfortunately those v max bullets act like grenades to foxes.

How is it on pelts on coyotes?  Thinking of running that in 223 and maybe 22 ARC if they group

It depends, hit them in the soft tissue and it's a pinhole with a smoked body cavity. Hit them in the shoulder blade and it's like you tore the leg off and have a runner. All lethal hits but they vary in terms of anchoring. I tend to shoot off the front shoulder with vmax if I can. From the forums (and if you reload) a 39 grain berger or soft point might give you more consistent results. I don't reload so the 40 grain v max it is. Plus I get insane accuracy from it.

I have about 5 different 22cal bullets I can play with when reloading.  Tricky finding consistent anchoring with damage (same with deer).  Maybe i'll stock with 55gr soft point.  I ain't paying Berger prices.

If anyone sees a fresh roadkill deer in northwest Monroe County let me know.
Will be shoveling off the foot and a half of my pile when the wind lays down but would love a fresh one. Yotes are going to be hungry once this weather breaks.

New thermal comes in soon.  Hopefully get it zeroed in and use it a few times before end of March

Wish these were available to hunt in Monroe County. Lot of them around.
