Do we know if government agencies are able to accept private funds for something like Lampricide?  Perhaps we will be living in a world where organizations such as LOTSA or ELOTSA need to have benefit tournaments or private donation options to fund these critical programs?

2016/2017 all the doom and gloom was met with more funding from the administration. Donald JR is a big time sportsmen. You do know he would fish the Salmon river and Lake Ontario every fall, mostly with Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing if memory serves. I saw him eating in Altmar Hotel one evening in the fall at the same time I was having dinner. You seeing any bad stuff happening or you still working on speculation?

Glen, just trying to figure it out. With Lampricide application and alewife surveys, timing is crucial. If grant money doesn’t flow it might mean a year without (or maybe four years without).  Nothing wrong with asking questions about what’s next.

No nothing wrong with asking questions. Speculation is not great though buddy especially if you don't want to make it political. Keep us posted please. Thanks. I'm hoping NY state doesn't funnel the resources into illegal aliens but I think you're OK as far as federal funding. Again appreciate you keeping an eye on whats going on.

This article from the "journal of Great Lakes Research" (2021) discusses "suppression vs eradication" of the Sea Lamprey.  The current program involves suppression. Eradication has a very low probability as eradication programs are never 100%; Lampreys are bust to boom creatures (exponential population growth - like gerbils or Quaggas) and Big-O is open to the sea.

If you read the "Cost-Benefit Analysis" section, it states the Great Lakes suppression program has an estimated annual cost of $26 million with eradication approximately 15 times that.  Eradication was attempted in Lake Superior years ago but failed.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0380133021000897#s0080

Cost is borne by the Feds, Canada and the bordering states. Timing is critical and the Feds are cutting funds, Canadians are pissed, and states don't know what the heck is going on.

Yes, big time sportsman...obviously no reference to the endangered specie he's shot. The protected duck in Italy; the African elephant or the Argail Mountain sheep?

"Undeniable facts from past experience"? This is not a political statement: your experience amounts to a case study. The truth of your experience may differ greatly from mine.

Or are you claiming to have experience with funneling money to illegal aliens lol?

I just don't see how politics plays a part in decisions to fund an ecological project - nor citing substantiated, published research.

Educate me. Without inserting politics into the mix. What is it you are objecting to?

Don't know what your are referring to. Please explain as I'm not objecting to anything. I would be glad to simplify things for you. When the new administration took office in 2016 the big deal was how the great lakes would suffer, the air and water quality would suffer due to de-regulations and lack of funding. Turns out the funding increased and the Great Lakes benefited immensely. Anything else you don't understand feel free to ask. Thats my past experience.

Thanks for clarifying. Hopefully the same holds true as we move forward.

Spoon - Please accept my apology for interpreting personal hero worship commentary of a political figure as political in nature that deserved pushback.

Gator - Someone asked if contributions could be made to sustain the program. I point to article that discussed cost of Lamprey control which would estimate how much private money would be required to keep said program going.

The country is going through a financial intervention IMO .

Trump said everyday on the campaign trail he was going to do it,won in a LANDSLIDE ,and he is fulfilling his promise .

Most Americans don't want their money going for condoms , transgenders or the Muppets in Gaza when we need it here . Things are changing and it may hurt .

Any of the brainiacs on here know where the money to pay off the debt will come from ?

What really makes my day is watching the panelists on TV and others ,  who freak out  ,hate Trump , and can't seem to come to grips that the Dems  lost . And what's even better , if you can call it that, is they are  too close minded to see why . Ah yes,  TDS is a real thing .

During the pandemic , I don't think they did any lamprey treatment . And it's my understanding we contract that out to Canada . And the fishing was pretty good this year .

Sending back illegal migrants cutting Millions from unbelievable funding to other countries.

Needs to cut cost of living now. it's creeping up if it continues in 2 years the people  vote again for the House and Senate ...lot of people voted for Trump because of the cost of living price of food ,home heating is crazy ,gas for autos  is up not as bad as it was with Biden but it's up . Go Trump and the  Musketeers..donald-trump_120x90_1528438764226(1).jpg.8a11490e805ee2f94ab95dc880ce1d37.jpg

Love the terms. TDS, libtards, woke left. Can't folks have a simple exchange of ideas without trying to belittle or demonize the other side? These things started out as a snickering kind of loopy joke, Now they're buzz terms used mainly by folks who didn't seem to get that it was a joke in the first place.

And don't start telling me how the left does the same thing. It does. MAGA republicans. Huge insult lol

Somehow I manage to have conversations with my right wing friends, many of them on here, without feeling like my opinions are totally dismissed and I'm a dumb ass. And I hope that I in return never make them feel that way. And at the end of the day, it's all about where we're fishing or hunting tomorrow.

Maybe it's just that the interweb sucks. Ignore me - I'm just watching years of work go up in flames. Meli-frickin-ora.

FYI, good article in the latest issue of Outdoor News on the impact of COVID on lamprey populations. It wasn't good.

I have the funny feeling that if there is such a check, it will be distributed a short time before the next congress elections.
