Actually Gator it's not in the end where we will hunt and fish . It's about survival , and living the best life you can . Being self employed and  a half step from retirement I sacrificed a lot to provide for my family and  invest in my future . I have no guaranteed pension or retirement plan . 

 

I have had good years and bad years business wise . Had to tighten my belt more than once to get by n sometimes was up nights worrying about it .  Now some that figured they were immune to any cuts that are now thrust upon them are not happy . Well , that's life. 

 I Want my investments and the Social Security ( I pay all 15.5 % where employers  pay half of employees) I paid in and was guaranteed to be there which they are now moving the goal posts .  

 

There are many out there that have no clue where the money to fund all this stuff comes from . They think it just magically appears and is always going to be there . 

 

Still no answers as to where the money to pay the debt will come from . Certainly with all the smart people on  here there are some studies , or charts , or graphs to show us . 

 

Don't worry Gator , there will always be fish to catch. They might not be what you want , but there will be something . And who knows . If the SHTF, we might have to eat them , along with a woodchuck I shot .

 I read in the USF&W article (linked in said article) that the annual cost is $1.4 million and that monitoring has occurred every 2 years for 16 uninterrupted years. (Treatments in Champlain) started prior to that. The graph (in linked USF&WS article) shows a reduction from 99 wounds per 100 fish (2016) to approx 35 per wounds per 100 (2022).  They also utilized many barriers along with the lampricides. This is a pretty good reduction and took a long time to achieve.  (Even though there were a couple of spikes in the data.)  Our monitoring of Big-o shows lower numbers.

 

However, the closing statement in the USF&WS article:

  "Without sustained sea lamprey control, native fish restoration successes will quickly succumb to sea lamprey parasitism and be lost, along with the social and economic benefits to local communities.  Continued support of the Lake Champlain Sea Lamprey Control Program is foundational to the restoration gains made and is critical to sustaining the future of these native fish species in the region."  Sea Lamprey Control in the Lake Champlain Basin | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

 

I hope we'll be okay.  I don't know when our major tribs were last treated but I'm very leery of what one or two escaping year classes could do to the fishery.  There was no treatment in 2020 and upward wound numbers in 2022. There have also been reports of guys catching fish with wounds and even live lampreys attached.

Somehow I manage to have conversations with my right wing friends, many of them on here, without feeling like my opinions are totally dismissed and I'm a dumb ass. Just your example should send shivers through all of us. Alzheimer research with the potential of solving a great scourge is just thrown by the wayside because of bone chilling ignorance. It must be terrible for you and your group to see all your effort ignored and trampled by political entrepreneurs.

In 1938 Britain negotiated Czecho-slovakia away to Nazi Germany without Czecho-Slovakia even at the table. Chamberlain came back to Great Britain and declared "Peace In Our Time". It only took Germany  one year to attack Poland and start world war 2.

I fear for Ukraine and the credibility of the USA. After all, why would anybody trust a country that abandons its friends for exactly.. what?

And Gill, maybe it is time for you to remove your "long live the king". People might misinterpret it

Trump is trying to give Putin a way out and be able to save at least some face . He doesn't deserve to but if it ends this needless war that is costing us a fortune it will be worth it . 

 

Trump is stroking Putins ego . Trying to make a deal . 

 

And besides , what is the alternative? 

Keep up this farce of a war that should have never happened and waste more money and lives for pretty much the same ending ?

Back to fishing:  A gas station in Irondequoit that I frequent, just raised their gas price by $.07/gal.

Man that sucks gas went up .Price of fishing just went up .  

 

Call me crazy , and I don't know if this is even possible . But here me out in this . I know it's nuts . But how about we try , with all the oil reserves this country has , we try , just try,  to become energy independent.  That way we keep the money in this country instead of giving it to our advisarys. But that's probably just crazy talk . I don't think even Trump could pull that off .

Ukraine fought valently with their hands tied behind their back from Joe Biden Russia devastated Ukraine my question is what are we to do now put the Navy in the Black Sea put boots on the ground in Ukraine start flying air missions over Russia all that's going to lead to  nuclear war nobody wins that how much money do you want to keep pumping into to a lost cause? Oh yeah we can use sanctions like that'll work

I've got news for you.

America is energy independent. We export a lot of it. The reason why prices go up is because we live in the world and we are not insulated within the US borders. Energy prices are dependent on the world markets.  Big oil is not interested in keeping the oil prices low. Instead they are more than willing to create artificial shortages (much like OPEC) in order to control the prices. Big oil is more than Trump can chew.

Yeah , I hear there is a lot of oil reserves in central Canada . The problem is they  can't get it efficiently to the southern states that border the Gulf of America( love that )  so it can get refined and supply the world so supply and demand could drive the price down . Maybe somebody could put a pipeline in to take care of that . Just a thought . 

 

And when prices spiked early in the Biden term ,pushing big solar and wind ,  didn't Joe hit up the strategic oil reserves ( brilliant move ) to lower prices and we were looking to Venezuela and other to recoup that . 

 

Green new deal? No gas cars in California in a few years and no gas stoves in NY ? Please .

Please America, stop thinking Fox is a news agency. Fox is an opinion piece with news sprinkled in. Bring back your independent minds. I think it was Mark Twain that wrote “generalizations are false, including this one” (might have been Aristotle-who cares)

When's the last time your favorite gas station actually ran out of gas?  Are you sure that the plastic over the handle didn't just mean the pump needed repair or reprogramming?

 

Have you ever noticed when it's just announced that the price of a barrel is going to go up that the pump price immediately jumps.  Yet when it's announced that the price has fallen, it takes a month or more for the pump price to go down?   

 

Gov't controls imports. (via tariffs & laws)  Gov't can also control exports. i.e. executive orders forbidding selling chips to China, or arms to certain countries etc.  There's never been a gov't restriction on oil exports.

Again back to fishing:  What fishing gear that you use was made in the US?  (Note: if the box says "made in US" means the box was made in the US)

 

I know McCoy line is US, Eagle Claw hooks are US.  St Croix rods are US. Penn reels (Senators only) are US.  What else?
