Downrigger Question(s)

I have a smaller (17') boat that I am planning on equipping with a pair of manual downriggers, gimbal mounted. Keeping cost in mind any recommendations for brand? So far have looked closely at Big Jon, Cannon, and Scotty.

Opinions about what is absolutely required as a minimum for these riggers is appreciated.

Thanks in advance for everyone's wisdom.

I've used both the cannon and scotty manuals and they are both good.
