Two side notes/questions:

(1) Have any of you guys caught steelheads with lamprey wounds on them?  

(2) Will Lampreys go after Atlantics Salmon? (They both are native to the Atlantic Ocean.)

To answer your questions, I've caught many steelhead with lamprey wounds fresh and healed in the tributaries, and have caught atlantics on seneca lake with lamprey still attached.

It is my understanding that all or most of the treatment has been contracted out to Canada . If this is true , why ? It isn't like we don't have educated people on DEC staff that could be trained to do this . We have trucks and tanks etc and probably most of the stuff to properly accomplish this .  There are survey boats that spend many hrs collecting incomplete data sending a truck , boat and 2 employees which could all be done with an App on our phones more efficiently returning  to port. Redirect those man hrs to something more important.  

 

We are 37 trillion in debt folks, growing and compounding every second of every day  . We are borrowing  money to pay our debts . That's a recipe for disaster.Are we going to wait till it's 50 trillion to wake up ?   . The longer we wait the worse it will be .  That's not politics , it's FACT some chose to ignore ,and I don't know why  .

Lamprey Control in the Lake Ontario tribs is performed by the Canadians.  They don't "Trust Us".....   I for one would love to see an overhaul on the GLFC.  They are a liberal organization that has done nothing but push for Lake Trout and Atlantic salmon stocking.  They really don't care for the King Salmon.   There new "Movie" the Fish Thief is a prime example.  Look at how many anti fishing organizations were interviewed and given airtime.  It is awful and scary!  Lets see how this all shakes out.  Don Jr spends a considerable amount of time in our Eastern Basin from Tribs to the lake.  Its always best to use the back door in these types of situations....

I agree that we need to take care of our debt. The problem is that we, the little guys do pay our taxes. So it is very upsetting for us to see these programs being cut. At the same time multinational companies and many other large businesses have decided to put their headquarters in other countries that only charge nominal taxes ,Ireland is Apple headquarters for instance. Big business has big political power and usually pays very little to zero taxes because of that. There are so many shell companies in for instance the Kayman Islands and Bermuda that are set up by big businesses in order to hide money that should be taxed. I would really like it if MAGA would concentrate on these tax evading policies. Specially because, in the end Jo Shmo republican and Jo Shmo Democrat are neighbors who usually try to help each other out in all the small and sometimes big affairs that neighbors help each other out with. So how about we stop allowing manipulators from trying to get us at each other's throats ,or at least stop listening to them and listen to and help our neighbors instead, because in the end we have a lot more in common with our neighbors, than with big business. Being divided is not in our interest but only in the divider's interest.

I just had a molar taken out last Monday . I'm use to pain so it wasn't to bad . Getting better every day . 

 

Seeing  how things are getting kicked back to the states , perfect time to take this lamprey stuff over and have American citizens getting paid to do it , keep money in the country . Keep our DEC people on the payroll busy . 

 

 

Bottom 47 % pay pretty much no In come tax , just consumption tax and many receive food stamps etc . 

Top 10 % pay 90 % of the taxes and the rest are paid by the middle class.  

We did a 3 million dollar house last year and the property taxes are 60 k per year . That's a lot of money . Is that house getting any more services than the 100k house ? Is that fair ? 

I'm really tired of hearing the whining  about the rich . I care about what I work hard for and want to keep it . The Gov has turned into partners of big business like he mafia .How bad is it that they have to move their money offshore so they don't get a large portion of it taxed so the Gov can waste it .   The money they keep is generally invested and loaned out or fund other businesses that employee people .

 

Also what I have learned is the the wealthy , and I have worked for a lot of them , not rich , manage their money . Which is why they stay wealthy . 

Poor and many middle class and those that come into large sums, generally speaking , don't . They get extra money and spend it on vacations , boats , cars, etc . I witnessed this many times as a landlord . 

Many pro athletes that got big money are broke shortly after they leave the league . Happens a lot .

Disagree about The Fish Thief. IMHO, they did a great job. Many interviews with families that historically made a living fishing. I wasn't watching explicitly for anti-fishing sentiment, but usually that sort of thing would set off my radar pretty quickly. 

 

I mean, they even talked about how king salmon were the savior of the lake after the alewives got so bad they needed to use bulldozers to clean up the beaches. Anyway, I went in thinking it would be schlock and ended up really enjoying it. Everybody should watch it and figure out for themselves what they think!

Heard yesterday that NY state has more public employees per resident than any other state . Imagine that . 

 

That being said , so we don't have anyone in the SUNY system that is capable of safely running the Lamprey program . I know the Brocport students go out in the lake to monitor that so maybe roll that into the curriculum . Just a thought . 

 

I got those tax stats from 60 minutes a while back I think . But they kind of make sense . You did see the 60 k property tax bill ?

Yeah, I'm assuming they knew what their tax bill was going to be when they purchased the property.  It sounds like they decided that they could afford it.  No one made them purchase that property.

Looking at this thread, I came to realize yet again how few members actually participate and try to positively contribute to the subject in case.

How much must it turn off other readers who want to be informed about the thread subject matter. It is almost as if we try to monopolize every opportunity to throw virtual rocks at each other for I don't even know what reason .

Maybe it would be a good idea to open an insult and mud thrower forum so we can be safely insulated and away from other members who are just interested in the subject matter and not in our endless and mostly self repeating monologues.

The fact is , if the 60 k guy said , you know what , I going to a state that is less tax crazy to build my house . So what happens then ? All the money spent to build the house , lumber , engineers and architects, designers ,tradesman , maintenance after the build etc are lost to another state . And maybe most importantly the area loses a premier surgeon. 

There are a lot that have left this state to avoid taxes they don't have to pay in other states , that coincidentally, are thriving . Tom Gallisano for one of many . 

 

And after that money leaves , it leaves the rest of us to pay for everything else . Like essential services , fish stocking , boat launch etc etc . . And maybe Lamprey abatement .

 

I suppose  you either get that or you don't .

 

I have been saying for years this sort of thing affects you fishing .

I considered this move myself,but decided against  it ,mostly because in NY state I get bang for my tax buck and because the educational level of the NY public school system is a lot better than in the states where the taxes are lower.

Yea, pretty much.  Just adults making adult decisions.

Considering that the guy in your example BUILT the house...he must've been more than OK with the taxes that you're complaining about on his behalf.

 

FWIW, I'm sure the property taxes affected the value of the property he purchased.

Either way, this conversation is purely political so I'm stepping out.
