Remember High School Science Class?

The Colors of the Spectrum ROY G BIV

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

Indigo

Violet

and of course, Black and Glow way down deep

That's pretty much how it goes as you get deeper in the water column, Red has the shortest wavelength and will be filtered out first (or is it the longest, damn, HS was a long time ago)

Anyways Red filters out and just looks black at the most shallow depths and each color filters out progressively deeper, so for instance purple is visible at much greater depths than orange.

That is proabaly why reds and oranges make such good coho and steelhead baits, I don't know if it is so much that they really like those colors better or it's just that those colors are still really visible at the shallower depths those fish prefer.
