I sure hope they restrict those sales to underutilized urban properties. Maybe the White House lol?

I'd hate to see our National Park system take any more hits. It's the pride of our nation and remarkable worldwide, albeit oversubscribed - last time we were in Acadia, over 3 million folks visited that summer. It's a small island!!! Nevertheless, stunning and wonderful in all aspects.

Well, it only takes about 170 acres for a golf course.  Another 70 or so for an airstrrip.  Another 50 for a hotel..... Wonder who'd buy that?

This has the potential to be bad too!

“the Pro-Housing Community certification; a requirement that all State entities identify the potential for their state-owned lands to support housing; recent and forthcoming regulatory initiatives to identify opportunities for greater efficiencies to promote housing growth“

When you are 36.5 trillion in debt and growing , and the interest alone is 6.5 million per minute , these are the things that happen , you sell off assets .

I also was at Acadia last summer and I agree.  I hate to see this .

There are a considerable number of army/air force bases that have beem closed and not being used at all.  If affordable housing is the real driver, why not develop them?  They already have roads, utilities, are near towns, etc.  Why dig up pristine lands in the middle of nowhere when this land isn't being used at all?

This really is a matter of one hand washes the other.

Between the time that large lots are sold off and housing is build, this land will change hands quite a few times with of course the help of subsidies. A very few people will probably get very rich just by buying subdividing and selling and reselling.

I appreciate the efforts to pay debt , but this is just another way for a few billionaires to get even richer.

If reducing the debt is the purpose, then maybe  the billionaires should start paying the same taxes over their overall income as you and I instead of paying far less or nothing at all.

Sadly this is just a way to take our public lands away for the profit of a very few without even asking us ,the owners ,you and I , how we feel about it. I would like to see this come up for a general vote. Somehow I think that both republicans and democrats will be very united in voting this down.

Areas they're talking about are a long ways from where housings is needed.  They'll probably wake up to that fact after they start the projects and end up putting in oil wells or mining operations.

The list of agencies and individuals who are being impacted in the name of “waste and corruption” grows daily. I feel horrible for the folks taking it on the chin. Whether you agree or disagree with the decision, it’s a tragedy to lose their expertise and dedication.

For anyone who doesn't know, if this goes thru, it will affect Tunison National Lab in Cortland NY, which operates the Oswego station.  They operate the Kaho research boat which conducts the preyfish assessment as well as monitors Big-O eco/food web/invasive systems in Lake Ontario.  Tunison is also the lab that investigated/"cured" the Thiamine issue as well as the VHS issue.  When something affects the fish in Lake Ontario, Tunison is at the top of the list to investigate and cure.

Tunison has also been "big time" involved with restoring/monitoring the Lake Trout fishery in Lake Ontario.

Tunison has also been working to restore the Cisco and Bloater populations in Lake Ontario.  The Ciscoes, which were once as abundant as the Atlantic Salmon in Lake Ontario are sought as an alternative food fish for the Salmons (Pacific & Atlantic) and Lakers.

If we want abundant lakers, increased stocking, and larger Kings, we need to convince our congress men to oppose any funding cuts to the USGS biological programs.

After 40 + years of financial mismanagement by the federal Gov we are now 36 trillion + in debt as a nation . We are borrowing money to pay our debts . So this is what happens .

This administration has taken a balanced budget type of approach to solve the problem .

Hey , I love and use the LO fishery probably more than most . But I accept the fact cuts from all angles need to be made .

Enough of the last minute CRs to borrow more money to fund our demise .

Uh, huh...

Because research is soooo lucrative. Speaking from experience, folks don't do this sort of thing to get rich. I made $11,500 as a graduate student for five years, which DOUBLED to $22K when I became a postdoc. And there went ten years of my life. That's some gravy, eh? I'm guessing that the top end in fisheries sciences is way less than in biomedical research, too.

These guys absolutely bring it, and we get more juice for the squeeze than we probably deserve. And cutting their funding is a drop in the bucket. It's focusing on pennies when we need thousands. The fiscal argument doesn't hold up. You don't cut your most effective employees just to save money. This is simply bad business (to speak in DJT terms).

Nobody is disagreeing that we need fiscal responsibility from our government. Unfortunately, the guy who’s businesses have declared bankruptcy six times is in charge. He lacks a basic understanding of the world economy. We are truly f’-ed.

Yep, lacks the basic understanding of business foreign or domestic, that's why he's a billionaire. Those are our tax dollars, not theirs. We don't work for the government, they work for us. Somehow over the last 30 yrs government employees think they are our masters and my thoughts are they can FO.

Just look at the top LEO of NY Big Tish caught stealing. No one is above the law right AG James.

No tears from me

I can’t deny he is a billionaire but I cannot ignore the fact he was born with a silver spoon and given the keys to kingdom by his father. I cannot ignore the fact he then pissed it all away and no banks would lend him money so he had to go crawling to the Russian backed Deutsche  Bank to stay solvent and the conflict of interest it creates. I cannot ignore his love of Putin. I cannot ignore the fact that international banks are wavering in confidence about Trumps plan and we will have to pay higher interest rates on our bonds. I hope there are still some adults in the room to steer this sinking ship in the right direction……soon.

I try not to follow DU or Reddit for my talking points, most of them are liars.

You could watch Bill Maher goes to Washington and hear what he says about the Left.

I really DGAF what or how T$ did as a private sector businessman or how some argue how he became rich, daddy's money, Putin's money, Deutsche bank money, ZFG.!!

I do care about your illegal apple pickers are being sent back home and off the roles of my taxpayer funded healthcare.

I do care about DOGE finding 1 Trillion $ in fraud by our government employees and thieving NGOs. I care about commies in the government doing commie shenanigans to knock this country down comrade.

Some just don't like our CINC, majority in this country do.

It's only been 92 days, the ship isn't sinking..

Yawn.........I love how fishing topics are turning into political jabs back and forth.  Cut the BS and talk fishing.  There is already enough division in this country.  Let's not divide this place too.  I come here to read and talk fishing........

I have been saying for years politics affects your fishing and what ame are seeing now is a case in point.

Not saying that all this research , etc is  not worthwhile ( although 15 scientists from 6 agencies came to the scientific conclusion that no lamprey abaitment lead to more Lamprey makes me suspect )

But when does the point come when you just can't afford some of this anymore ?

And for what it's worth , I feel the adults are finally in the room . And they are saying sorry kids , we can't afford all of this stuff we gav been giving you and buying on credit cards or we will lose our home .
