I was wondering if there is any such thing as rental a boat for trolling. Set up with down riggers, all the things. Anyone know of a place?

If there was I would guess it would be almost as much to pay a charter considering all of the messes some would get into running down riggers and a boat they are unfamiliar with.

I definitely understand what you’re saying, wasn’t sure if it was a thing. My father and I are looking for a boat to rent to take out. We no longer have a boat and we are experienced fisherman trolling so just seeing if anybody knew anything

You & your dad can only run six line so if you have any gear Rent a pontoon boat and run some junk lines. Running dipsey, lead core, copper, seth green) and inline planer boards will cover most of what you'll catch.

The rental boats I’m familiar with have basic electronics and not much in the way of rod holders. For folks looking to go a few times a year a charter is the best way to go.  You get the boat, the gear and someone with local knowledge/experience.  You will have a better outcome for not much more money.  I have ex boat owners/fisherman that go out with me every year- for a handful of trips they say that they saving money vs expense of owning a boat.

Call around.  Wondering if there are a few captains you can charter through who would allow you to do the work.......choosing what rods to run, lured, etc.

when we went to the central basin at Geneva Ohio to fish for walleye. we didn't have a clue about fishing there. we took a charter out and he started letting us help by lunch time. the 2nd day he set the lines and then turned it over to us. if we had a big problem he was there to get us going again. on the 3rd day, we were on our own running 3 dipsies per side. We did manage to get some whopper tangles, but it was usually caused by doing something wrong. However, we did enough on the charter to be able to fish on our own and catch a lot of fish.

the charter we were on put us through school so I'm 95% sure if you ask around you will find a caption to take you out and let you do the rigging plus you may get some good advice that will help you in the future. but the most important thing is he fishes almost every day and could put you on fish and tell you how they fished and what worked for them.

if you go out on your own you may spend half of the day searching for fish. I feel 100% that your catch rate would double with a charter. his recent time on the water fishing would help you get started fishing without searching for the fish. i wholly recommend you find a charter willing to let you fish on your own without any help other than his advice you would be so much better off.
