Surprised by how little bird movement I’ve seen. Hopefully the recent weather will be a bonus for a good season. Everything seems to be a few weeks behind schedule.

So I wouldn’t normally smack a Jake, but my little guy wasn’t going to let me live it down if I didn’t shoot lol. He has been asking to go on a turkey hunt for the last year. This morning was it. He got up at 3:45 this morning ready to go. He is an impressive 3 year old. Just loves it. Anyway, no action till 8:30 until 3 jakes came in gobbling like crazy. Then beat the life out of our tom decoy. Really cool interaction for him to see. A morning to remember

I knew which ridge this Tom was on 2 weeks ago so I got in very early and had my red light on when I heard putting up high when I crossed a creek to get to the ridge I wanted. So I shut the light down and just sat quiet for 45 min. 5:30 comes around and he is freakin in a tree 40 yards to my right. Thought there was zero chance he didn’t see me. Well he didn’t. He gobbled once at 5:45. While he strutted on the limb I managed to cock my gun with my left hand, switch it to my right hand and power on my red dot. The turkey pitched to 13 steps. Directly in front of me. I leveled my gun and hammered him. The bird that putted was his hen across the creek. Didn’t make a single turkey noise or do anything besides sit quietly. The gobbler died maybe 5 seconds after his feet touched the ground 😂

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good!

NY public land tag out! Did a late morning hunt from 9:30 to 12. I struck this bird at 11:22 and he was dead at 11:30. Came in hot and he came in with two other toms. Can’t beat lonely late morning birds! I’ve always said, if I get a gobble after 10 AM, my mindset is that I’m going to tag that tom.

Folded him at 37 yards with the Burgess Creek Ammunition 9s out of the Stevens 410. Killed 7 birds with the 410 now and it’s just the absolute best way to turkey hunt!

that .410 has to be more fun to carry than my remington sp10 10 ga. at 11lbs

It’s amazing. Like carrying nothing at all with zero kick and zero hearing loss lol. Shot birds out to 47 yards with it with zero issue.
