How long is the leader that you are using with the core? Mine starts the year with 50 feet but it gets cut down as I snip and re tie the swivel. It is a very effective rig on many days. It has saved my day many times.

RAIL BIRD -- the leader i"ve been using is maybe 6-7ft could this be the problem , also should i be letting out all the leadcore and some backing or can i just let out say six color's of my ten ?

Jon, put a 50 ft leader on. You can put out as much colors as you want. 10 colors will get you down approx. 50 ft or so. lately for us 7 color has been hot for steelhead.

I agree with what Rob said but I do like to put the full 10 colors out so knot is past the rod tip. If your knot gets hung up during a big hit you can break off the core.
