I was reading an article by Bill Hilts an outdoor writer in western NY and he said there is a early Bass season on Lake Ontario similar to the one on Erie. I always thought Lake O did not apply to the early season. Does anyone know fore sure? Doesnt matter much now but for next year it would be helpful to know. Thanks BP

You can fish for bass legally now year round. It has to be artificials and catch and release only from March 15 - the 3rd Saturday in June ( I believe).

Hey Bob,

great getting out with you last night...we'll get 'em next time.

you are correct, C&R in the offseason, except for Jeff county where its closed for the spawn. the county lines extend out into the lake and river.

I know this because after some debate about conflicting sections of the DEC website (lake O/St Law regs, vs special county regulations) I called the Jeff cnty DEC and got the straight poop (I use the fecal referece because the rationale given for a closed season in Jeff is bull****). supposedly they are going to rectify that discrepancy tho
