lead core and reels

Hi all,

i mostly fish the fingerlakes for trout and bought lead core this weekend for the first time: 100 yards of 18 lb test and 150 yards dacron backing. The problem is none of my baitcast reels have large enough spool capacity. i have a couple of questions:

1. can i run lead core off of a large spinning reel?

2. if i need to use a baitcast reel, how much line capacity would i need for 100 yards of 18 lb test and 150 yards dacron backing

3. finally - how important is it to have a steel spool? a friend told me that plastic spools sometimes break with lead core.
