well you might get a few diff.answers.... During my school of fishing egabucation i lernt it was one of those 50cent size(about 2 1/2") dypsy set on max out setting put out 25' to 50' (with a lure or spinny) ,hook it to the downrigger (outside riggers only) and lower away ...This methoud give you a last shot at a fish leaving your spread kinda droping away from the boat and moving out to the side then BAMit gets a second chance to bite and your "down" and "out " rig fires....

Dear Ray K.,

Very good description! I only run them about 25 feet max from the release on the outside riggers in order to have more control during turns. I also have to run the rigger release a little tighter, so you don't get too many false releases due to bumpy wave days. I also use 30# flea flicker on the reel to the dipsey. (to minimize equipment loss). then a clear snubber and 25# fluro to the dipsey. I lose very few fish on this setup.

Respectfully submitted,

Jet Boat Bill

Thanks for the explaination Ray and Bill.

It's just about what I thought it was, but I wasn't sure of the distance to run from the rigger.
