Down speed

Hey guys,

Haven't been fishing since the early 90's and then I was just a kid reeling in fish while my father did all the work. Was just wondering what speed is best at the ball for spindoctors and j-plugs. Thanks for any advice you can give.

2.1 to 2.4 this year sometimes a tad faster or slower... mph...im not much of a J-plug guy but up to 3mph ive heard

it really depends on what down speed unit you have and if it is calibrated if possible. the sub troll on my boat is from 1.9 - 2.25. i have trouble getting spinnies to work on my riggers. they work a lot better on my wire dipsey rods.
