I would like to remove the Intake manifold from my OMC 2.5 Chevy engine.

On this engine, the Intake and Exhaust manifold is one item.

The Manifold is held on by a sequence of nuts on studs that are sticking out off the engine.

The Manifold is cast in such a way, that there is absolutely no room to fit a Wrench on the nuts.

I can fit a socket on the nuts, but there is absolutely no way to fit a ratchet handle on the socket and there is no way to fit a universal fitting on the socket... there is simply no room.

Does anyone have any experience with removing this Manifold?

Do I need to make a tool myself?

Is there something available on-line? (I have been looking, but to no avail)

Thank you for your suggestions.

Andrew:

It is quite easy I have removed and replaced my manifold in the past. If you go to Sears and buy a 9/16 open end box wrench the box side will just make it in the space available. Note the 5th bolt back from the front (fan end) you will need to remove from the bottom. In order to do this remove the neg battery cable the remove the solnoid block. To remove the block ther are two 7/16 screws facing up into the manifold which need to be removed and on lock nut at the base of the block which also needs to be removed. Good Luck.
