I want to try fishing with wire line next year. I have never done it before and I would like to know what would be a good reel to purchase? I want a reel that will hold a lot of wire. What do you guys suggest?

Standard reel size would be your 47 series by daiwa. The Sealine 47 lc or the lesser expensive cousin the 47LC accudepth plus. I upgraded to the shimano tekota 600LC for my wire set ups and they have been flawless for me just had to bite the bullet on the cost but I am happy I did 8)

You should be able to fit a 1000ft plus of Malin 30 lbs 7 strand on them and that should be plenty for you for the season.

Good luck

P.S. I will have some reels for sale at the end of the season if you are in the market for a couple

Shimano Tekota 600LC, once you use one, especially with the Shimano Talora roller rods, you won't want to use any other. I have been running this combo for the last six years & they have performed perfectly! 1000 feet of 30lb wire fills the reel very nicely (no need for backer either).

Good luck!

I have been using Okuma Catalina 25 line counter for the last 4 or 5 years. No complaints, great handles!

They hold 1000' of 30# no backing needed.

Replaced the Daiwa 47lc's because the small handles made it like work to reel in.
