For those of you who are Pro Members, you can check out the wave forecast link in the left column under Fishing Resource Links - I do not ever recall having seen a forecast on Ontario calling for waves of 17 FEET! I wonder how well those turbines would hold up?

I saw 19' on the weather bouy 3 years ago in November. It was one of those huge wind events that fall. Could not imagine what that would be like in my 22' boat.

I was in oswego when hurricane Andrew came thru with gale winds from the west. The coastguard was out in the waves with there boat that rights is self if it goes over  it was cool watching them play in the 15+ waves.I was only able to fish for 40 min. before we got blown off the lake for 4 days worst trip ever for getting on the lake.but it was interesting watching what mother nature can do :)

I remember a couple/3 yrs ago someone posted a lake vision picture of waves coming right over the Oswego breakwall. Should be neat to watch (from shore)

Watch the power output of the windmills tomorrow. They have to shut them down at 22-25 mph or they'll overload the grid. (Can you say "surge"?)

My first trip to the big o I pulled into oswego pre dawn and could see waves coming over the breakwall. We trolled the harbor once, and then out we went. We hooked one coho, and lost it at the boat. I couldn't leave the wheel, and my buddy couldn't get to the net, so he watched it wrap around the rigger cable and break off. 12' waves in a 16' boat, great day on the water. Now I feel like I can handle anything tht the fingerlakes can throw at me.

Thanks for the link to the Oswego lighthouse Musky Bob. Those pictures bring back some great memories.

I grew up in Oswego (eastsider, about four blocks from the harbor), and as a kid, I used to ride my bike to Fort Ontario, sit on the hill above the harbor and watch the waves roll over the breakwall like it wasn't even there!

Take a look at it today. They're going over the wall & ya can't even see it anymore. ;)

Here's what it's supposed to look like:
