Apparently Canadice and Hemlock Lakes are excepted from the proposed moratorium on state land acquisitions in the New York State budget. Governor Patersen announced this during a speech this morning.

I have mixed feelings about this because the lakes, the most pristine and least developed of all of the Finger Lakes, have been well-protected by the City of Rochester. The Department of Environmental Conservation has been managing fish and wildlife resources for the lake and I hope that the good work continues. If it ain't broken, don't fix it! Supposedly, this is being done to continue protection of the lakes by preventing them from being sold to private developers by the City of Rochester. I'm hopeful... Other thoughts?
