Any one have any experience with the Cabelas brand of lc reels. Want to run copper, and mono. They seem to be priced pretty good. I just starting to get the tackle neded and need to out fit at least six rods for down rigging and dipseys divers. Also looking for a good used boat 19 to 21 ft . Any help and advise is appreciated

A friend from Oswego runs them, not sure cause i havent paid much attention to them, but they used to be made by okuma. Not sure who makes them now

I bought two of the depthmaster gold (dmg30) 3 years ago. I drove to the Cabelas in Hamburg Pa so I had the opportunity to check out the standard depthmaster and the gold series. The gold series felt much more solid and smoother so I went with those. I use them for wire dipseys and am really happy with the reels. They are smooth, the linecounter seems to be pretty accurate, the clicker is loud and I am really impressed with the drag. With that said, I have only used them on the finger lakes. I havent had the opportunity to see how they hold up to a 25lb king, but I expect the gold series would be up to the task.

I own four Cabelas gold series. Best value for your money period. The only caveat are the handles. The handles are soft alloy and will bend with the slightest bump. Since the reels are made by Okuma, you can get nice stainless replacement handles direct from Okuma as replacements for $5.00 per. With the handle upgrade, these reels are still underpriced IMO. When you order them, get the combo deal with their depthmaster dipsy rods....also an excellent product.:yes:
