A friend of mine told me that every time he puts gas in his boat he puts stabil in his tank because of problems people have with the ethanol, I was wondering if this is a good idea or not and if anyone else does this. Do you really need to do this to avoid problems or is it just needed at the end of the season before you put up the boats? I did this a few times last year but wasn't sure if it was needed.

If it is in the high use season, you can get away without it, but if you leave your boat sitting on the high humidity waterfront and your fuel tank vent is open to the atmosphere, the daily temperature changes expand then contract the volume of fuel and outside air is induced into the tank, water will be accumalated in the tank due to the E10 alcohol and its affinity to suck up the water and then separate in the tank. The water is on the bottom and when you start up, you get a slug of water and you are stuck at the dock for your day off.

If your engine doesn't already have one, I'd suggest adding a water/fuel separator and carry spare filters, just in case.
