I never sanded my Teak, seems like the only way you would sand if it were painted. A mechanic @ a boat dealership in New Jersey showed me what they do years ago and it is really simple, high pressure wash cleans it nice, and a mixture of boiled linseed oil and denatured achcohol restores it to its natural beauty. Teak has a natural wax in the wood which seems like it would not sand well or mess your paper up quick.

Sands really easily. Never gummed up my paper either. The stuff is just nasty, kinda like dust from larch wood. I wanted to seal it so I only have to seal it again once a year or less. The way you described finishing would look great but would require more frequent maintenance.

Seasquirrel is right, Sikkens Cetol is great.I did all the wood on my Baha and it held up for three years that I know off. It took the sun very well. :o .
