Was out in front of the breakwall setting up today. There is a data bouy, yellow in color and standing maybe 4 feet high above the surface. It is directly in front of the breakwall anchored (I believe since the waves were slapping it and it appeared to be resisting movement)...it is in 65 feet of water. Keep an eye out for it. It will be difficult to see in rough water and low light. It did not appear to have a strobe on it.

not sure Tom, but it is kind of small and is in a location that will get a lot of boat traffic. Maybe it will not be there too long.

Skipper19, thanks for the info. Being new to the Oak I would appreciate any other info people may have about Oak navigation.

Just Fishin,

There are not many natural hazzards near the oak. There is a hump about a mile east of the wall off what is known as the ladders. It goes from 40 feet to 20 feet very quick. Ok for the boat but tough on the downriggers. There is a ledge that runs to the east of that hump. The shallow danger areas tend to be around johnsons creek to the west and devils nose to the east. At this point most of your fishing will be in deeper water so there is not much to worry about. Most years the river is pretty clear but there is a big tree just north of the state launch.

Race Markers SUCK! The Youngstown Yacht Club and one of the Canadian clubs put out race markers each year. They are about 5 feet tall, 1 foot in diameter and there is no light on them. I would love it if someone would bring bolt cutters and remove these obstacles. Easy to see in the day, not so easy at 4 AM after 12 hours of work.

I like the big inflatable red race markers. Think of them like duck blinds and tie off on them then pull out the flare gun and wait. Eventually game always shows up.

hey they are for W.A.F.I.'s ,,,,,,,this time of year id be a little more worried of partial sumeraged loges than a 5 ft high bright yellow bouy..Unless you were a truck driver and cant see anything smaller than a truck....
