What kind of fish was this?

I was at a beach in Toronto yesterday and I saw a fish that was about 2 and a half feet. It was getting dark so I couldn't really see too much. The top was dark and the bottom area was almost silverish. It looked closest to some kind of trout but I REALLY couldnt be sure at all.

The only thing that I coulld see was how big the eyes were. I thought that might be something specific to that kind of fish but as I have been searching around the internet I am starting to figure that it was just a condition.

Anyone know what it was?

Maybe a walleye? They will look silver/white at night on the bottom.
