Hi fellow fishermen. Last September, I left Rochester, and beautiful Lake Ontario, and moved to Colorado Springs, CO. We have some nice reservoirs here, with some large lake trout, and I would like use dipsy divers to get down to 50 feet. I have (2) 9' 6" dipsey rods with daiwa accudepth 47lc reels. My question is, " can I use 40# braided line instead of 20# mono ?"

The 47lc may be too large for the braided line as the diameter of the braid is a lot thinner. If you add the braid to your mono, you may jam the line on the edge of the spool with a large fish. 20# braid is the minimum I would use with dypseys. 30# flourocarbon for the leader also.

We're running Covector 30d's with 30lb Power Pro. In order to get the level up, you

need to get backing on as Jimski said. I use 30lb Gamma flouro on the business end.

30lb PP is fine. One good point for 30lb is that the Deepwater fishing book carries dipsy dive charts which cover 30lb mono, braid (power Pro) and wire.
