Does anyone else drop a lot of fish on longer coppers?

I run a 500' down the chute, it takes it's share of hits, but we dont land very many. The dipseys and riggers take hits and we probably land 90 percent of them, but with the long copper its about 20 percent. All of the terminal tackle is the same, sharp hooks, etc.

Maybe just a string of bad luck?

well im not shure if its the length and natural slack of copper but if you fish enuf to test my little therory try a long clear snubber8 ft from the lure ...sorta like a dypsy snubber, leader setup....Maybe the snubber will keep a better "steady" pressure on the hook during a bumpy day retrive....Worst yer gonna do is loose fish , stealth and bites ????

If I are right youll know due to your own experiance of copper "unbuttons"

What Gambler said + what are you running for a leader? Your leader is the only 'give' in a copper line and if it's not long enough fish can tear themselves off.

The whole package is one I bought pre-rigged from atomik. I believe the leader is like 20 feet. I don't get break-offs, usually they take off rippin and we keep pressure on them to let them run, then after they stop it seems like they just drop. I tightened down on one while it was running and it bent one of the trebles (owner) and got off. Thanks for the suggestions.
