There's nothing like the pressure of getting your boat prept for a Tournament and then finding electrical problems......

Maybe someone has some light to shine on this for me. I can't find squat on line.

I have a 2003 Honda 225hp EFI outboard with a 2 stage lift and trim.

The problem is that what looks to be a static ground wire is being fried. It mounts to the bottom of the trunnion shaft that the motor pivots on and attaches the other end on a shock dampener. The cable is about three times larger diameter than a downrigger cable. It was insulated but has since burned off. The terminal bolt ends are machine pressed onto the cable.

I would suspect a bad lift motor but it runs great in lifting up and then down.

Or, that there is a bad main ground connection for that motor.

I find no evidence for either. No blown fuses either. The 2 batteries and terminals are all in good order.

???????

Anyone have any experience with this type of problem? It's probably something simple.
