I'm pretty sure it is a bowfin also. I have caught tons of those things and they have a bony head with small teeth just like that.

Not a snakehead. The head of the dead fish looks to be rounded

Go the the pond in Fair Haven State Park, put a shiner on a wire leadered hook, place a bobber on, and toss it out from shore. We caught tons of these Pike fishing in the pond years ago. And yes they don't fight too bad.

There are a lot in sandy pond also. I got one once there that was floresent green. When they spawn they turn real bright colors.

believe it or not we sell those skulls although we require them a bit cleaner than that. Also have the full skeletons or preserved whole fish for dissection. I love the science supply buisness.
