I've heard of guys dragging their balls :) on the lake bottom. I assume that it stirs the mud and looks like feeding fish. My question is whether this can be more productive than just running 5' off of the bottom and whether there are certain times/conditions where this is a good strategy. Also, couldn't you just attach a 5'+ peice of chain on the ball with 80' test to reduce the chances of hanging the weight and losing the ball. Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

I've thought about the chain thing but have always been leary about snagging a tree branch & hauling it up when retrieving the ball. Normally I "bounce the bottom" by hitting bottom the raising rigger 2-3 ft.

A guy had a piece of antena wire from a car screwed to the bottom of his weight to tickle bottom. It was 3 1/2 ' long he had drilled and tapped the bottom of the weight to screw the antena in.

I did the chain deal for awhile not sure it was any better , drilled hole in back of cannon ball added a eyelet , cheap snap/swivel , douled over #30 test line and a few feet of logging chain.............
