Since this thread is going wherever ...... decided to post a quote from an e-mail received recently from a good friend

Gubmint and How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of

a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So

they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without

instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two

people, one person to write the instructions and one person to do time

studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the

tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and

hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they

created two positions, a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired

two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an

Administrative Officer, an Assistant Administrative Officer, and a

Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one

year, and we are $918,000 over budget. We must cut back." So they

laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let that sink in. Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY..... during the Carter Administration?

Anybody? Anything? No? Didn't think so!

Bottom line: We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support

of an agency...the reason for which not one person who reads this can

remember!

Ready?? It was very simple . . . and, at the time, everybody thought

it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977 TO LESSEN OUR

DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND, NOW, IT'S 2010 -- 33 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS

"NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000

FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES, AND

LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND

SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?"

A little over 33 years ago, 30% of our oil consumption was foreign

imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports. Ah,

yes -- the good old Federal bureaucracy!!

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO

INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

That's the democratic system off Gov & how it works, LL . Unfortunatly you cast your vote & are along for the ride till the next vote unless you want to write letters or make calls to deaf ears. We as New Yorker want cuts, But don't cut our stuff. As a nation we need a serious attitude adjustment IMO. I feel your pain on the reword, revote stuff. The corruption runs rampant ,the results of which we have to deal with.

Spoonfed , you asked an open question , I gave you an answer on my investigation & reasearch of history on the issue.Try and look at the big picture.Enjoy your fishing year.

Gas prices will drop when speculators buying futures feel they have topped out, sell off , reap the profits, & crude prices drop. .Till the next turmoil/disaster. When the sheep will be fleeced again. Count on it.

Remember the Carter years, gas lines, odd /even and shortages created by OPEC to drive up prices? Then came Reagan. Boy ,we could use a guy like that now.

One way to drive Gasoline prices down is to get Higher Export Tax on Gasoline that is produced in the U.S.A. and shipped to other countries.As long as big oil can make more money exporting Gasoline the valve flows a good amount away from the U.S.A..

As of the month of Febuary 2011 the U.S.A. Oil Co's Export close to 500 Thousand Gallons of Gasoline Per Day!

So if it was more profitable to sell more Gasoline within the U.S.A. instead of making more profits selling Outside The U.S.A.,the price may not come down to much,but should stablize. Just accross the border in Canada they are paying closs to a Dollar more then we are per U.S. Gallon.The same Gasoline they pay that $1.00 more for flows through a pipeline accross the International Railroad Bridge to the U.S.A.,also many tanker truck loads every day,where it is sold for less,they have the same problem Big Oil makes more money selling to the U.S.A.. But like every time Gasoline goes up and consumers purchase less the Feds get less Tax Money,so it will come back down so the Big Tax Grab can go on,just every time it stays up about .25 cents more then it was the year before.

But we have a long ways to go before we catch up with Europe where it is around $9.00 per gallon!

Check out the Williston Basin oil formation known as the Bakken ,google it,. We have more oil in this country than the rest of the world combined! It runs from Montana through N. Dakota into Canada. This will tic you off big time! I feel we should put pressure on our govt. reps. to do something abuot this. Jmo.

Force gas prices down .This was sent to me (e-mail). The idea is to stop buying gas from the 2 big guys Exxon & mobil. They should lower their prices due to no sales & the other smaller guys will follow their lead & lower theirs. We need to do this until exxon & mobil get down to $2.00 per gal. then if need be buy theirs again. The key to this working is it needs to be passed across the country( e-mail) & get millions to do it! They figure this is better than a day-week total boycott due to our need for gas & should work over time. Don't shoot me I am just passing it on! lol

If the boys in Washington release some oil from our strategic reserve it is to prevent their paychecks from bouncing, not to lower our costs for gasoline.
