not sure what to use

Hello all.

I would like to try trolling for salmon..I can remcharter going to olcott, ny on a charter, but that was a long time ago. I bought a little 18 1/2 ft boat. I put 2 downriggers on it .. and have 2 poles set with dipsey divers. Downrigger pole set with 30 # line. Dipsey set with 30# braid. Can I use this set up in May? I don't plan on going out very far. We'll not until I get a bigger boat.. any tips would help

Theres is so much info on this site it will make your head spin. Take some time and read through old posts and im sure you will pick up a few things. Soon enough we will all be fishing and the reports will be rolling in pretty heavy from all around the lake and those should help also.

The west end of the lake is your best choice for the May time frame.

Thanks. I will look over the old posts. I am ready to do some fishing. I just bought a luhr jensen speed trolling unit. I going to put it on the boat this weekend.. cannot afford a fish hawk right now.. thought I would try it out.. anyone used one of these before? Does it work?...read alot on them.. some say yes..some say no. Just wondered.
