Installing New Cable on Cannon Downrigger

I am removing the Power Pro from my Cannon Unitroll downriggers and switching to SS cable. Do I have to crimp the end of the cable after I feed it through the hole in the spool, or will I have luck putting a knot in the end and winding on the new cable?

Tension on the spool holds the cable on. Thats why you don't let it all out. The cable on mine is crimped with a sleeve after it goes through the hole. A knot would word as long as it and any loop dosen't catch on anything. Put it on tight!!!
