AC. As much as I love the finger lakes and fish them religiously. I even am in the process of purchasing a lake front cottage on cayuga. I think the bigger picture needs viewed. NYS is Flat Out Broke. We are cutting educational programs at our schools/ one of the most heavily taxed states in the US/ and yes I am a small business owner who many say is nuts for operating in NY. I say let them come- regulate the living heck out of them-Tax the piss out of them and let NYS be prosporous again. I think it the problem is not with the gas companies but the people who regulate them and keep on slapping them on the wrist. If they mess up- don't slap there there wrist instead cut off there arm. Let these big gas companies pay the taxes not always rolling them down to joe homeowner. And YES I am IN FAVOR of Natural Gas coming to NYS.

I was born and raised in upstate New York ( Oneonta..Cooperstown area ) and after graduation worked from 1957 until March of 1976 and remember when New York was an exciting vibrant place to live 8) because anyone who wanted to work could find a GOOD PAYING job.. 8) .and life was good..and we fished when and where we wanted because EVERY ONE had jobs and money. In 1976 after being laid off (because my company. ;( ..like many others left NY because of politics and high taxes) and not being able to find a job in my line of work that paid decent  ..........I left and came to Texas....Two days after I arrived here in May..1976...I went to work for a wonderful company making top wages and never was laid off or taxed to death. ..I retired in 2002 and live VERY comfortably..Had I stayed in New York...Jobs like I enjoyed here in Texas do not exist any more in New York because of politics.. .High taxes and an unfriendly climate for business..Mower said it best...I LOVE upstate NY and spend 5 1/2 months ( and a lot of money in the local economy ) close to Cayuga Lake and care big time about the environment and protecting the quality of fishing and life quality..I've said it a thousand times that if it wasn't for the stinking OVER TAXING and UNFRIENLY ANTI business climate in New York that I would sell out and move there permanently.....There are TONS of rules and regulations for any business that exists any where in America to make sure said business is environmentally safe...Agriculture........wineries and tourism are not enough to sustain the economy of upstate New York...You NEED REAL companies that pay taxes and GOOD wages and bennies....New York Is a welfare state because of politics and the un friendly business climate....This gas company would be a start on reversing that negative trend..

Personally, I am all for the big companies to do what must be done, and I think that reasonable concern will be taken for the environment. We (the USA) have lots on energy resources. Many feel that natural gas is the only real alternative to oil, for the next few decades. My real personal concern is the "progressive" agenda of the Obama administration. Those folks are hell bent on re-distributing the wealth and making the USA into a socialist society, and, if they can get us deeply enough in debt, it is inevitable that taxes will go way, way up in future administrations to prevent the total financial collapse of our way of life. That, I believe, is their plan and they have gone a long way toward making it a reality in 2 and 1/2 years. Don't worry about storing gas underground, but do worry very much about those who would hi-jack the country and discard the constitution. We must all get personally involved for 2012 elections and get these people, who hate America, out of Washington. I am deeply concerned about what the "progressives" have in mind. How in the hell did they gain power? How in the hell did it happen? They (the communists) have been waiting for 100 years for their chance and they will not surrender easily, but I think the real struggle has just begun over the weekend.

I presume that you are a Rush Limbo fan.

I love NY and I have a cottage on Owasco Lake.

I would love to get natural gas out of the ground and into the pipes in NY,but there is one big problem. In 2005 during the Bush administration a law was passed that took away the Environmental Protection Agency's power to regulate gas drilling. In that law there is a loophole that allows the gas companies to pump whatever chemicals they want into the ground without having to publish what sort of chemicals they use. This loophole is called the the "Halliburton Loophole" and was created by vice president Cheney who used to be the boss of Halliburton. Whatever chemicals were pumped in during the fracking process seep back out later on together with the gas. That is why people living on top of the gas bonanza in NY are very worried for very good reasons

As for politics, wake up man and turn off Rush Limbo. Rush is selling you a lot of hot air that makes him a millionaire and keeps you misinformed.

If that's the case the Obama administration had 2 years to reverse that law? Why didn't they? They had a democratic congress and senate. The EPA now has too much regulation power. Wait until you can't run your boat or grass mower etc... because of the ungodly alcohol content that keeps getting higher in our gasoline as 15% ethanol has been approved. The way NYS is run it won't be long before the only gas you can get will be 15% ethanol. Why not have some regular gasoline for those whose older motors can't really run very well on all that ethanol content? God forbid not in NYS! The EPA doesn't care about you or me they have an agenda at all costs endorsed and created by this administration. Unheard of subsidies being paid to corn growers which is affecting food and gas prices along with the ridiculous speculation allowed to go on with these commodities. Have you gone to the grocery lately? The Fed and this administration is a joke! It's getting downright ridiculous. I agree with Old Tex about what has happened in NYS. Unions and special interests run this state and I don't see it changing anytime soon. I think you need to wake up man because you don't need to listen to Limbaugh (which I don't) to see what's going on.

You bet! I listen to "Rushbo" every day and so do many, many millions of other concerned Americans. He is highly intelligent, courageous and very well informed. He is also far more honest than Barry! It is the most popular Talk Radio in history...why do you think it is so popular? How about FOX news? More Americans watch FOX than all of the other networks combined. What choices do we have for news and full spectrum information...Rachel Maddow?

America is best governed, historically, from the center. The center in America is the "great silent majority" and Rush and Fox are their voice. The left has had it, and Barry is a one-termer. That's the good news. America will speak loudly in 2012 and clean up our government for at least a decade or two. The free press took Nixon down, and Rush, and FOX are taking Barry down. It's a good thing.

I agree with Tex also! I live in Kersey Pa, but for 2 1/2 years I lived in Cortland, NY. I love it up there and the people are great. Ideally, I would live there for the summer months for the great fishing. Anyway, they have been drilling all around here for a few years now and there have really been no "real" bad side effects. Lots of people are already making LOTS of money. ;) Sure, there are new pipelines and roads being built, but most wildlife thrives on the edge habitat. The streams aren't being polluted and nobody's drinking water is being poisoned. The media would have you believe that fracking is "Oh so terrible". They have been fracking in Texas for years and years and there have been no proven bad side effects. It's kind of like the whole global warming thing. Last year was the first year Lake Erie froze completely in over a decade. The media blamed the freeze on global warming. When the lake temp is higher than normal, they blame it on global warming. They get you no matter how you look at it. The industries do need reasonable regulations to ensure limited impact on the environment, afterall the hunting and fishing is why we live where we live. It takes both sides to make the government work correctly. Just saying no to drilling doesn't help anyone (unless you are from Saudi Arabia).

Here in WNY we have some of the HIGHEST occurance of Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, and Cancer rates. The pollution of the seventies has much to do with these high levels of morbitity. Without your health........taxes, jobs, cottages mean NOTHING. The rocks in the Niagara gorge are so laced with toxins from seepage thru bedrock from landfills that it is recommended to clean your hands thoroughly after touching them. Once the ground water is contaminated....game over, everyone in the southern tier will have to pull water from the lakes. I am all for natural gas......just not with CHEMICALS!!!! For all the far left and far right lunatic fringe......stop drinking the cool aid. Take information from both sides and make a informed educated stance. Just because something is said by a radio personallity (with an agenda) does not make it true.

Did you know that "All Things Considered" from NPR has higher ratings and more listeners than Limbo?

Posted

I listen to NPR a lot for many years. "All things considered" is first rate but, unfortunately, NPR is in the tank for Barry and his group of elite, "progressive" thinkers. NPR is also a thing of the past real soon. They got too arrogant and touchy/feely with Juan William's fear of the Arabs in the airplane. I am scared ****less when I see those dudes in the airplane. Any body with a brain in their head would be afraid. Those dudes are into beheading the infidel. The higher the monkey climbs, the more he shows his ass...bye, bye NPR!

The topic is in regard to salt mine storage of natural gas at the west side salt plant caverns with a brine storage above the lake.

Has anyone knowledge of the Watkins Plant in question?

How similar is it to Retsof? Any risk to collapse?

Natural gas is cleaner than coal and more abundant in America than oil.

We've also recently learned again that nuclear power can also be botched by bad design or "forces of nature".

Gotta think about whats sustainable at some point...

Lets all go fishing.

Tight lines.
