This Brown had Lamprey hits on top of his head, is this common?

It happens when the fish sleep upside down...

Are you sure it was a lamprey mark and not a scar from fighting or comorant or something? Either way, nice to hear some fish are biting out of Sodus, we'll be up for the season the first week of June.

went out of Sodus Sunday as well. Slow and went 0/3 ;( hooked up twice on the same orange J9 Rapala in 15 mins b4 hooking into the bottom and losing it :o also put a nasty scratch in the side of the boat at the ramp. Still better than being at work :D

BB - That photo is not very good of the top of his head, but one of the marks is very symmetrical & round. It was also small so I believe a juvenile lamprey may have been confused as to where to latch on?

BG - That ramp/dock/shallow water/rocks are fun to navigate arent they?

That fish is a dropback from the creek. The scars look to be spawning scars or bird scars. Its hard to tell from the small pic though.

I had a fish hit Sunday that missed the shot and got hooked in the head right where your fish was scarred. I also boated a fish that had the first juvenile Lamprey I have ever seen on him. Normally they are huge. I tore him a new one! ;) Tank
