Nestled along the scenic Niagara River, the Village of Lewiston will celebrate one of its most famous natural resources; the smelt. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation deemed Lewiston as one of the best places in the nation for Smelt Dipping. On May 6th beginning at 6 pm The Niagara River Anglers and the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce will batter and fry over 350 pounds of smelt at the Lewiston Waterfront. The adjacent Silo Restaurant serves up chowder, beer, WNY’s Famous Beef on Weck and more. Live music. See a real live Smelt King add to the fish fun. Area restaurants along the Village’s main street offered their own culinary version of smelt.. Fish flags identified participating restaurants.
