i just purchased a boat with the ram rod holders and scotty plastic rod holders. Would they be strong enough to hold wire? or should i look into something different.

I would look into something that is metal and dosen't swivel when a king wacks your dipsie. Or look at the thread on rod theathers!!!! 8)

I have plastic scotty rod holders on my boat and they hold up fine just make sure they are completeley in place before puttin a rod in under pressure of a dispy set your drag loose so it pulls out line when you get a bite and not the rod

I have heard of guys losing an entire wire setup due to plastic Scotty rod holders. I would ditch them. Wire rods are not cheap.

With the cost of a wire setup being just about $200 and up (rod/reel/twilly/wire/dipsy/flasher/fly), I wouldn't put it in a $20 plastic rod holder.

I agree with Andy and Brian, the plastic holders will not hold up to the rigors of a wire setup and multiple king hits for an extended period of time. JMHO
