I got my copper reel in, what type of rod should I use?? Should it be a super stiff one like a dypsie rod or can I use a regular downrigger rod with it???? So many questions....... :shock: Thanks guys!!

Steelfire you can get the heartland rods for around $29.00 at marine general or fish usa has them I think I use them for my dipsey rods and they have good action on them plus the 9'6 lenght will get it away from the boat.The picture in my post is one of those rods.

I wouldnt reccomend anything lighter than a M action but would prefer a MH. If your running it down the chute I like a shorter rod.

Action is not really that important but you will definitely need to have BIG guides on that rod, because with copper the knots can't be small. Also, you want metal guides only, because the big knots will pop out ceramic inserts if there is some.

Best is to buy a rod designed for lead core. Shimano make a good one that is not too expensive.
