couple hundred yards south of Long Pt in 17 ft of water.

a large red (not fishing) boat didn't slow down.

I was drifting, was goofing around with some perch while getting boat ready to come in.

he went around me, to the rear, just about circled me, never slowed....

sent 3' waves over my stern, into boat, halfway up to steering wheel.

i started boat quick, got hit w 2 waves...

bildge worked.

i went to boat ramps and called him an A--hole for swamping me..

he said all kinds of choice things like I shouldn't be there.

shoulded be boating ...

blah blah blah...

whatever......

i should have gotten a tag number and reported him...

he would have killed some row boaters I slowed for earlier,

who were in a john boat a few 100 yrds off shore...

i really can't stand people like that,

luckily my faith in the humane race was restored a little later...

a guy and family pulled their car over to ask if I needed any help..

(after he had left)

---------and he did leave swiftly... with his young son, who he taught well what an idiot he was...

would getting his tag and reporting him after the fact...do anything??

Well that stinks... I hope that new boat of yours is ok..... I know you are fine... a few years ago I was bringing my Penn Yan to the launch during real low water levels and I mean LOW Water... I was creeping to the launch in a no wake zone and this dude goes right by me on plane and bottomed the prop out.... I was Pissed... I get to the launch and this idiot says can i give you a hand with the boat as Im pulling up to the dock.... I said "your a F@$%^ Moron stay away from my boat"..... I said " You did not see the no wake zone back there and you bottomed my boat out when you blew by me you monkey"... I called him a Monkey..... He actually apologized up and down and helped me get the boat on the trailer and looked over the prop with me...... I was actually very impressed that he realized he messed up and was willing to assist me getting it out..... Sometimes people don't realize what there doing and that dude you had problems with he will never realize and unfortunately the apple won't fall to far from the tree...... Woody

Hey Woody....!

funny... he said.. 'I went around ya... what else can I do??'

I said its called ....A Throttle! LOL... what a butthead!

I believe the boat is fine,

that bilge must have worked so fast I didnt even see it ....

I hit the manual switch and nothing came out...

I stuck my arm down in there and felt no water...

When I was a kid we got swamped and nearly sunk in NY harbor by a tug boat wave.

My Dad had his 17' waterski boat overloaded, 6 not 4.

We were there for Operation Sail with Navy ships from around the world for the 200th Ann. of our Country, 1976. ((Anyone remember that??))

THAT was pretty hairy!

I was bailing with a cooler... we had no bilge pump.

My brother and sister were hanging onto the nose to keep it down.

Motor wouldn't start and we paddled, full of water to a shore, in the rain!!

My sister went into shock... we as kids, did the usual... laffed at her...

If you have his tag #, report him. A visit by the Coasties may not end in a ticket, but, it may make a lasting impression that saves someone else's life in the future.

There are a number of reasons for this type of action:

1. Ignorance. This can be easily fixed.

2. Stupidity. You can't fix stupid.

3. I'm special. This needs to be stomped on to make an impression.

Glad you are O.K. Stupid runs rampant amoung the pleasure boaters. Blow boats are even worse. Normaly I run into that bull at the south end. I was fishing out of a kayak a few years back on Skinny about 30' from shore. This 22+ ski boat kept pulling a tube within 50 feet of me. After a few runs I had enough and looked in my tackle box for the biggest lure I had which was a #11 rapala. The next time the boat came by I waited untill the driver made I contact and I fired that rapala right at the boat. The boat swerved and did not come back. Good thing because I think I had how much to lead the boat down. Boaters are responsible for any damage from their wake. Get the numbers next time and call it in. Wes

Thats why i carry a 44 mag, just point it, they'll slow down.

Or you will get shot! ;) You could report it to DEC they will keep a look out for him. Don't bother with the coast guard on the Finger Lakes, the Sheriffs Department has a boat up that way also. Not much that can be done if they don't get caught on the water. Sean

Yeah pointing guns at people is not the way to handle this situation ... Yes the Guy driving the boat might be an idiot but how many innocent bystanders are also on the boat???? Let the Sheriff handle it...

Thanks guys....

I learned a few things...

Like being more ready to start the motor when I see the potential for a large wake...

and

(I knew this)....

starting a conversation with ........'your an a**hole' .......

never gets you anywhere... (cept when it's better than an assault charge!!)....

I will call for Assistance if there is a next time....

Fortunately...working in the Public Safety field does give me a little more credibility than if I didn't....

and i apparently needed that...

...since he called me a b*tch a few times and told me I shouldn't be boating...

They could at least made his life more miserable for a few moments...

............Hey maybe he was trying to impress me with his big motor :inlove: ...LOL!!!!

whatever....

..........next day I was out on Owasco :)

fish weren't biting great but it was a beautiful day ....

PS....good thing my lil old watch dog didn't latch into him!!.... :o

Hey, Just joking, It's to bad the lake is full of people like that.

I know you were...

ps.... how many shots to the hull do you figure it would take for the bilge NOT keep up??

-wink-

That is one Scary looking watch dog..... Get yourself one of them Jack Russell Terriers those things were bred to protect the boat...Plus I bet it has a bit higher pulse rate than your current watch pup..... :) ..

Hey 1dogshy,

Sorry to hear about your near miss, lots of reckless/inconsiderate folks around these days. Noticed your copilot looked pretty comfy! I've got two but they are not fond of boating, wish they were.

See you on the pond!

I am totally psyched....

Going to Sampson State Park tomorrow....

and getting a slip for friday night...

Then me and mutts are sleeping on the boat!!

It isn't a cuddy but has full curtains all the way around... 8)

This is A First... Just HOPE I can get my coffee in the morning!!

(only boats I ever slept on were 2-3 day trips for Cod up north or in the Dry Tortugas...)

I must be back to work 24 hrs Sunday 8am :no:

(and it's a 2 hr ride home)

Hey Shake N Bake... I trained dogs obedience/ behavioral problems for 20 yrs...

If you really tried some things you could get them mutts out there...

If you trailer your boat...

You could FEED them in it at home...everyday

to start a 'warm fuzzy feelin' for the boat ...

there are other things you can do but it takes time and patience...
