Have any of you ever installed an alternator filter to try and eliminate scatter on a depth finder at certain RPM when trolling? If so, any recommendations on brand and suppliers? Running a Merc 9.9 pro kicker and using a Humminbird 974 depth finder.

Check your spark plugs to see if they are resistor style. Should have a r in the number, if not buy some

rated for your motor.

Yes, they are resistor type. I have replaced them once with no change.

Wire the ff to the batt and not the rest of the electrial system.. Use the inlinefuse that came with the fishfinder.

Already tried that too! You can see I am desperate to fix this problem.

Are you wiring it to the same battery as the main motor, or the trolling motor? If you run two batterys then both motors should be hooked to the "start battery" then wire the FF to the "house" battery, and your problem will go away. Use a ACR (automatic charging relay) {blue sea sells them in a kit called "add a Battery"} and you can charge your "house" battery once your start battery is up to charge. Your problem is like herding cats otherwise.

Great idea! I will give that a try. Thanks for the help!

Make sure you consider the transducer wire routing. It needs to be separate from the rest of your electrical wiring or you will get induction issues which will also cause your complaint.

If that doesn't help, call humminbird. They are extremely helpful with this stuff. Common problem. They have some kits for this type of thing, like an RF choke. Will send you the right one, at no cost I believe, if need be.

Thanks for the info. I will start the process of elimination!

I can see thad dude loves his cats. Anyway, Radio shack sells this stuff called (shielded wire), its like coax cable. You use it to power your fishfinder, (the positive power all the way from the batt to the monitor). Your power cable acts like an anntenae and picks up all kinds of electrical JUNK and feeds it to the screen. You have to hook the shield part (the braided wire surrounding the core) to a good ground. This should help.

Thanks buddy! I suspect I will get the problem resolved with one of these recommendations. This is a great website for information sharing!
