This is a late post but I wanted to share this special fish with the board.

The family and I snuck down to Conesus last Monday evening to get out on the boat one last time before my son Brian headed off to basic training with the National Guard Tuesday afternoon. Brian never caught a Pike before that night and was after me this summer to put a Pike in the boat before he left for the 9 weeks of basic in Missouri.

Well at 8pm we decided to try trolling some deep diving cranks along the southwest shore and as luck would have it this big guy cooperated.

37 inch 13lbs pike grabbed a reef runner in 40fow and put up a tough 10minute battle with 2 good runs before we horsed him into the net.

Yes he is off for mounting.. ;)

Beautiful pike, nice trophy!

That will make a great skin mount. Yes, replicas are all the rage but skin mounts are so much better. Replicas just do NOT compare. After all, this is a pike, not the next state record muskie. Pike are everywhere and prolific but getting one north of 36" is tough. This is a nice trophy to put on the wall and a great memory for you and your son to have shared.

I salute him on his catch and his service!
