6hp runs in a barrel like a champ then.....

i have a 6hp evinrude for my kicker... she runs gorgeous in a barrel then when i get it out on lake it only runs at high rpms... Thoughts? and yes it is same combo of gas tank, hose and motor

you recirculating the water in the barrel? warm water in the barrel, cold lake water?

I had a similar issue with a small outboard. In the barrel the water only came up to a certain point. Mounted on the boat the engine sat much lower in the water. Same problem. I was told that there was more back pressure when the engine was mounted on the boat because of the depth of the water and this caused the plugs to foul. Our solution was to make the mounting bracket 4 inches higher on the boat. Never had the problem again.

so technically could i fill the barrel up higher to check that

ok so i did a lot of things tonight and i should have done them one at a time... cause now i can get it to run like crap in a barrel. but not sure if it was the higher water or the different angle of motor...
